  1. Food and Architecture Puerto Rico

  2. Architecture

  3. Architecture • Strong Spanish influence • Spanish colonial, neo-classical, medieval-style and baroque architecture in close proximity to one another. • Have narrow winding cobblestone roads.

  4. Food • Similar to both Spanish, Cuban and Mexican cuisine, it is a unique tasty blend of Spanish, African, Taíno, and American influences, using such indigenous seasonings and ingredients as coriander, papaya, cacao, nispero, apio, plantains, and yampee. Locals call their cuisine "cocinacriolla".

  5. Food • Tropical fruits and vegetables, seafood, condiments, and legumes and cereals (the ubiquitous rice and beans). The Spanish contributed culinary techniques and wheat products and introduced pork and cattle. The tropical climate required the importation of preserved food; dried codfish was long a dietary mainstay. Candied fruits and fruits preserved in syrup are also traditional. Rum and coffee are the preferred beverages.
