  1. Welcome to Mandarin III

  2. Daily Required Materials • Textbook • Notebook • Worksheet binder • Pen or pencil • Completed assignment (if requested)

  3. Class Expectations • Be positive. Class will be a lot more fun when a positive attitude is maintained. • Be punctual. Avoid tardiness and absences. • Listen when others are speaking. Do not carry on a private conversations during lectures, guest presentations and work sessions. • Team work is a requirement in this class. When you are assigned or chose to work with others, work cooperatively.

  4. Class Expectations (Continue) • If a class is missed, you are responsible for the material covered. You can begin catching up by reading lecture notes (from your classmates) and the textbook. If you have questions regard the missed material, you should visit me during my office hours or contact me by email. • Do all required assignments and turn them in on time. The deadlines are real. Late assignments are not accepted.

  5. GRADING POLICY The following system will be used to determine the grade for each student enrolled in Mandarin III. Quizzes 20% Homework 20% Projects 20% Final 25% Class participation* 15%

  6. GRADING POLICY (Continue) * The grade for class participation will be determined by evaluations of the following criteria: class preparation, daily oral participation, effort and attitude. Students are expected to be actively involved in the class.

  7. HOMEWORK • Written homework may consist of exercise(s) from the textbook, from the blackboard, from the workbook, or from a worksheet. It will be checked on the day it is due for completion and accuracy. Failure to produce homework on the due date will result in a “0” for the assignment. Students absent from class will be given an opportunity to complete the assignments they have missed. Absences due to field trips or school activities are no excuse for not submitting homework assignments.

  8. HOMEWORK (Continue) • Homework, either written or oral practice, will be assigned on a daily basis. • All homework will be averaged at the end of the marking period.

  9. QUIZZES • Frequent quizzes will be administered in both written and oral forms. The final quiz grade will be determined by averaging the results of all oral and written quiz grades.

  10. PROJECTS • Projects will provide students with an opportunity to use the language in creative ways. Clear guidelines will be established at the time of giving out the assignment.

  11. FINAL EXAM AND FIANL GRADE • The final examination will test both written and oral proficiency. Final exam will reflect work which has been drilled in class and practiced in homework assignments.

  12. EXTRA HELP • Language learning requires constant practice and diligence with homework. If you experience any problems, please see me before or after class, or by appointment to arrange for extra help.
