The project aims to design a convertible truck box cover that efficiently transforms between a topper and a tonneau. Key constraints include a quick conversion time of 20-60 seconds, the ability to be assembled by two people, and minimal intrusion into the truck bed space. The cover must withstand Canadian winters, be lightweight, fit various truck models, and cost less than $1500 CAD. The team has conducted a comprehensive literature review, selected materials, and established a timeline with key milestones for the project's development.

Overview of Presentation • Problem Description (Adnan) • Constraints & Criteria (Kevin) • What have we done so far? (Arian) • Project Schedule (Arian)
Objective: To design a convertible truck box cover. Problem Definition Truck topper Truck tonneau CONVERSION
Constraints & Criteria • Must topper-tonneau conversion (and vice versa) should take 20-60 sec. • Assembly must be mountable by a maximum of 2 people. • While the assembly is operating in cannot take any room in the truck box. • Must be able to withstand a Canadian Winter • Must keep weight as light as possible
Constraints & Criteria (cont’d) • Cost < approx. $1500.00 (CAD)/UNIT • Manual conversion process from topper-to-tonneau and vice versa • Cannot obstruct rear-view mirror • Must fit contours of various trucks (i.e. different trucks will have different sizes but for this design we will be designing for a Toyota Tacoma 2006 ~ XRunner Edition).
What have we done so far? • Problem Formulation • Developed a detailed schedule • Comprehensive Literature Review • Material Selection • Analysis Scope Defined (Kinematics/Materials) • Conceptual Design Defined. • Challenge: Found a patent on design idea!
Project Schedule • Milestone 1: October 31, 2008 • Define a preliminary design solution • Start Analysis • Milestone 2: November 31, 2008 • Complete analysis • Milestone 3: January 15, 2009 • Initial Draft of Final Report Complete
