  2. On Moodle… • Find the Comparing Structures Wkst • Open it in Notability • Write your name at the top • Open a Trilobite Info reading at your level • Use the color given by your teacher • Red/orange/honors=3 • Yellow/green=2 • Blue/purple=1

  3. Learning Target • I can use anatomical structure to compare and infer relationships between organisms. • Success criteria: I am successful when I can make a claim about age or relationships and support it with evidence.

  4. Fossils • Scientists have recently uncovered some fossils buried deep under the ocean. • They are sending you samples for your “expert” opinion.

  5. Group by Similarity • Please categorize or group your paper organisms by similarities you find.

  6. Group by Similarity • Answer the following questions in your document 1. Which characteristics did you use to group these organisms? (Please be specific) 2. Which was the most difficult to group/categorize? Why? (EXPLAIN)

  7. Regroup by Age • Further organize your organisms by putting them in a timeline order. • Oldest on the bottom!

  10. Now that you are an expert… We are going to look at some new organisms.

  14. When you are done reading and writing, your teacher will place you with another group (total 4 people). Cut outyour trilobites.Keep the numbers!!! Get a trilobite worksheet from the back table.

  15. Group by Similarity • Now that you know a little bit about trilobites, please categorize or group your paper trilobites by similarities you find. • Don’t forget the characteristics you used with the Nintendo “fossils.”

  17. Regroup by Age • Reorganize your trilobites and put them in a timeline order. • Oldest on bottom • *Hint*- think about your similarity groups-could they help you?

  18. Regroup by Age • Consider this… If you have organized into one timeline, consider that more than one could have existed at the same time.

Take a picture and insert it with a heading “Partner group by Age.” • Answer the following question in your document: 11. Did this group organize the same as your group? If not, EXPLAIN. Note any specific differences.

A new discovery! • Archaeologists have made a new trilobite discovery and shipped a diagram for your immediate action. • Where would you place this most recent finding in your timeline? • Does it make you rethink your organization? • Draw arrows, circles, etc. if you feel changes are necessary. • Take a picture and insert it with a heading, “Group by Age.”
