El Dorado!. The Person/City/Kingdom/Empire. My Book. It is about the Lost City of Z and how Percy Harrison Fawcett tried to find it. But he disappeared with his son and his son’s friend. So a guy from New York tries to find them. But doesn’t. So the City of Z is sort of like El Dorado.

  2. My Book • It is about the Lost City of Z and how Percy Harrison Fawcett tried to find it. • But he disappeared with his son and his son’s friend. • So a guy from New York tries to find them. But doesn’t. • So the City of Z is sort of like El Dorado.

  3. The Person • The first reference to El Dorado was referencing the actual man. • This man was named Dorado and was a Muisca tribal chief who covered himself with gold dust. • After that, he dived into Lake Guatavita, which is located in Colombia. Lake Guatavita

  4. The Legend • The first known account talking about El Dorado was written by Juan Rodriguez Freyle. • He is the author of the chronicle titled The Ram. • It was only talking about the person, but people took it literally as the golden city itself.

  5. Famous Fail • There have been many attempts to find El Dorado. • The most famous expedition was that of Gonzalo Pizarro, which failed miserably. • However, on the same expedition, Francisco de Orellana was the first to journey the entire Amazon River to the Atlantic Ocean. • So it was not a total fail. Outside References • Many references are made to El Dorado because of its popularity. • These are in books such as Paradise Lost by John Milton and Candide by Voltaire. • It is referenced in Edgar Allen Poe’s poem Eldorado. • El Dorado has also come to mean something that is desirable but not attainable.

  7. The Only Reference I Knew • The only reference that I knew previously was The Road to El Dorado. • It is a film made by DreamWorks Animation. • Two thieves find the city and are mistake for gods. • They are found out but end up protecting the population forever.
