  2. INSTITUTO COLOMBIANO DE GEOLOGÍA Y MINERÍA INGEOMINAS Libertad y OrdenRepública de Colombia RESEÑA HISTORICA DE LA RSNC • The RSNC, arose from the need for a modern and reliable tool to provide accurate information regarding the seismicity of the country. Here are the most important dates in the development of the RSNC, since its creation: • 1987: RSNC`s Preliminary activities are initiated . • 1988 Colombian staff training in Canada. • 1989TELECOM cooperation to enable satellite links. • 1990 infrastructure works are initiated for receiving and analyzing data. • 1991 Installing the system for receiving satellite data and the acquisition and processing systems.

  3. INSTITUTO COLOMBIANO DE GEOLOGÍA Y MINERÍA INGEOMINAS Libertad y OrdenRepública de Colombia • 1993 13 of the 14 planned stations were instaled • 1994 Official Opening of RSNC with 15 stations in operation. • 1995 The Central Government contributed with U.S. $ 1,000,000 to expand the coverage of seismic network with five more stations. • 1997 The operation of these five stations and 50 accelerometers starts. • 1998 El Rosal station became part of the International Monitoring System (IMS) of the CTBTO, whose main objective is to assist in the monitoring and detection of nuclear explosions. • 2001 The Rosal station is updated to connect via satellite to headquarters of the CTBTO in Vienna.

  4. INSTITUTO COLOMBIANO DE GEOLOGÍA Y MINERÍA INGEOMINAS Libertad y OrdenRepública de Colombia • 2005-2006: A process of updating and expanding of the Seismological and Volcanological System of Colombia is started, projected to the years 2011-2011. The aim is to expand networks and broadband technology purchase. • 2009 The RSNC has 34 stations installed, 13 broadband and 21 short period. It also has regional stations in subnets. • Near future (2011 – 2012) Tohave 57 stations in operation, as follows: • 42 Satellite stations: • 23 BB • 19 Short period • 15 Short period stations in subnets
