Visa and residence permit < 3 months • Enter Holland with ‘short stay visa’ (Visum Kort Verblijf, VKV) • Report to the local immigration authorities • Register at your host institution when you arrive > 3 months • Enter Holland with ‘provisional residence permit’ (Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblijf, MVV) • Report to the local immigration authorities • Register at your host institution when you arrive • Register with the municipality (GBA) as an inhabitant of the local municipality (within 5 days) • Dutch host institution can apply for student: fast-track procedure • Check Student Visa Wizard on www.studyin.nl • Questions? immigration@nuffic.nl

Insurance • Dutch law requires everyone living in Holland to be covered by health insurance • Students must make sure that they have adequate cover There are three healthcare insurance possibilities: • You have to take out a Dutch public healthcare insurance • Your insurance policy in your home country covers your stay in the Netherlands • You take out a new or special insurance policy for your stay in the Netherlands Lippmann: www.ace-ips-nl.com AON: www.students-insurance.eu

Housing • Finding a place to live in a country as crowded as Holland is not easy • Before coming to Holland, first ask your host institution whether or not housing will be arranged for you in advance • In most cases the host institution will arrange student accommodation for the first year • Very common to rent rooms on the private market • Rooms usually unfurnished, and kitchens/bathrooms often shared • Average monthly room rent: €300-500 (incl. electricity, water, gas) • More information: www.studyin.nl

Diploma evaluation • Nuffic is central point of contact for the evaluation of foreign diplomas • evaluates around 9,000 diplomas a year • Where possible, a foreign diploma is compared to a Dutch diploma • In-house experts specialized in the education systems of specific countries • Nuffic is also able to determine whether a programme or an educational institution is officially recognized and tests the authenticity of diplomas

Working after your study • Search period of a year to find a job after graduation • Apply for a change in the purpose of stay in your residence permit: ‘seeking work after graduation’ • The new residence permit is meant to look for a job as a so called ‘highly skilled migrant’, but also allowed to look for a job as a regular ‘labour migrant’ • During search period you’re not allowed to get State grants, but you may work without work permit • After search period no job found, then return to home country • When found a job, then change purpose of stay again
