Sirály is… • „the heart of an unconventional revival of Jewish life that is injecting eclectic energy into the largest Jewish community between Paris and Moscow”(Los Angeles Times) • „trendy Jewish pub-cultural center in the area of the former ghetto.”(JTA) • „aims to be a showcase for hip Jewish culture.”(Forward) www.marom.hu

  4. The History… • Király 50. in the middle of the Jewish district was an empty building for 10 years in terrible conditions belongs to the municipality. www.marom.hu

  5. The History… • Number of Young Jews and non Jews decided to ask the place from them (city) to open a new grassroots Jewish cultural centre. www.marom.hu

  6. The History… • The municipality refused to give the building. In secret they renovated it… www.marom.hu

  7. History • And then they occupied it…Hm… not they but www.marom.hu

  8. Why we opened Sirály? • To create a meating place • To create a jewish inviorment for thoose, that never would go a formal Jewish institution • There was no place for the agegroup of people between the age of 20 and 40 www.marom.hu

  9. Preconditions (target group related) • Non religious • Non affileated • Low knowledge about Judaism • Jewish programs are sucks • Negative feeling towards Jewis institutions • They would be together with jews and non- jews too www.marom.hu

  18. Theatre – independent companies In the last year our theatre produced three Performances that won six prices among Them the Budapest Jewish theatre. www.marom.hu

Volunteers, partners, supporters • Everyone can suggest programs • Everyone is involved • We love people who loves to cooperate • No professional stuff (except the cafe) • We are develop ourselves with the help of our partners • Without our supporters we weren’t be able to keep Siraly (there were several protests, requests and lobbying for the place) www.marom.hu
