  2. What is Bartering? • Bartering is negotiating a lower price between a buyer and a seller of a good or service • Bartering is commonplace in Markets of Spanish-speaking countries • When traveling, this is a useful skill

  3. When can you barter? • Common to barter: MarketsandTaxi Fares • BARTER when there is NO PRICE marked on the good • DO NOT BARTER when there IS a price marked on the good

  4. How do you barter? • Ask for price • This price is usually much higher than what the good is worth • Make a comment about how that is more than you wanted to spend • This usually results in a counter-offer • Either a Lower Price or a Cheaper Good

  5. How do you barter? • If you are offered a GOOD price, take it • If you are offered a BAD price, offer a lower price than you want to pay • If you are offered a DIFFERENT PRODUCT, politely decline • “I don’t really like that as well as the other one”

  7. Bartering Example • Hola. ¿Cuánto cuesta la pashmina rojo? • Buenas Tardes. La pashmina rojo cuesta 100 pesos. • ¡Ay yay yay! Es muy cara. • Bueno, la pashmina negro cuesta 50 pesos. • Pues no me gusta la pashmina negro. Quiero la pashmina rojo. • Bueno. ¿A 80 pesos? Es la ultima oferta. • Me lo llevo. Gracias.

  12. ACTIVIDAD Practice with a partner 1) Write out your own bartering dialogue using the examples as guides. 2) Practice saying the dialogue to each other while acting out what is going on
