Alzheimer Scotland aim - •To be the national and local voice of and for people with dementia and their carers in Scotland being Scotland’s Leading Dementia Charity •We campaign and provide services for people affected by dementia and we have - • about 4,000 members who run our charity • our freephone helpline is 24/7/365 • Have a network of Dementia Nurses, Advisors and Resource Centres and Services all over Scotland – making a difference for those affected by dementia Experiencing dementia

  3. Alzheimer Scotland believe - • No one should go through dementia on their own • Whether that be - • The person with the diagnosis • Those that love and support them • Or the communities that they live in! Experiencing Dementia

  4. Have you heard about dementia? • What do you think it is? • What do you think a person affected by the illness feels or could feel? Experiencing Dementia

  6. Dementia can affect - • Memory and learning • Concentration • Communication • Recognition Experiencing Dementia

  7. Dementia can affect - • Emotions and behaviours • Thinking, imagining, calculating, problem solving and planning • Every day activities • The way others see us! Experiencing Dementia

We all have rights! •All people affected by dementia have the right to – •Do the things they enjoy doing for as long as they can or want to •Be included in decisions that affect them •Make plans for the future – Power of Attorney, Advance Statements, etc •Be seen as a person in their own right Experiencing Dementia

  9. Healthy living helps reduce your risk of developing dementia - • Exercise • Health eating • Socialising • Keeping your brain active Experiencing Dementia
