  2. El tiempo presente perfecto Present perfect tense

  3. El tiempo presente perfecto • Present perfect tense: have/has ___ed (or irregular) • Ex. Ihave studied. or We have written. (regular) (irregular) • The present perfect tense is formed by: • Present tense conjugation of haber • verb in the past participle

  4. ¡¿Haber?! What’s haber? • Haber—to have (OLD Spanish) • As seen in: • Hay—There is/There are • Hubo—There was/There were (preterit) • Había—There was/There were (imperfect) • Habrá—There will be (future)

  5. ¡¿Haber?! What’s haber? • Present tense conjugation of haber: SingularPlural 1st he 1sthemos 2nd has 2ndhabéis 3rd ha 3rdhan

  6. Past participle—regular verbs • To form the past participle of a regular verb: • Remove the ending (-ar, -er, -ir) • Add -ado to the –ar stem -ido to the –er/-ir stems • ALL participles will have a present conjugation of haber in front of them for the present perfect!

  7. Ejemplos • Conjugations of a regular -ar, -er, and –ir verb in the present perfect tense

  8. Past participle—irregulars • Irregular past participles have spelling changes in their stems. • These verbs still use haber in forming the present perfect.

  9. Past participle—irregulars Irregular stem participles: • abrir abierto opened • decir  dicho said/told • escribir  escrito written • hacer  hecho done • morir  muerto died, dead • romper  roto broken • poner  puesto put, placed • ver  visto seen • volver  vuelto returned • devolver  devuelto returned (a book, etc.) • resolver  resuelto resolved

  10. Finalmente • past participle of ir: ido (like the ending). • Direct object, indirect object, and reflexive pronouns ALWAYS come BEFORE the conjugated form of haber. • Ex. Él me lo ha dado.—He has given it to me. • The past participle can be used as an adjective, especially with estar. • Ex. La pierna está rota.—(My) leg is broken. • With a conjugation of haber, the past participle ALWAYS ends in –o.
