  1. ZERO REGIO, and Europe´s approach to the hydrogen era 5th Fuel Cell Science, Engineering & Technology Conference June 18. – 20., 2007, New York, USA Dr. Heinrich Lienkamp Infraserv Höchst, Frankfurt, Germany EC FP6 Integrated Project Project-Coordinator Tel.: +49 69 3057571, E-Mail: Heinrich.Lienkamp@infraserv.com www.zeroregio.com

  2. Following Targets define the European energy policy Security of the power supplies Reducing greenhouse emissions Creating new opportunities for the European economy ZERO REGIO, and Europe´s approach to the hydrogen era Dr. Heinrich Lienkamp/Infraserv Höchst/Energies and Utilities/Frankfurt, Germany

  3. Strategic Research Agenda for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells – Six key areas of research Hydrogen production Hydrogen storage and distribution Stationary applications Transport applications Portable applications Socio-economic research ZERO REGIO, and Europe´s approach to the hydrogen era Dr. Heinrich Lienkamp/Infraserv Höchst/Energies and Utilities/Frankfurt, Germany

  4. Development strategy - Where do we stand today? Hydrogen is produced in big quantities from coal, petroleum, natural gas or electrolysis world wide Some hundreds of fuel cell applications are tested in different areas A few tens FCV´s are in operation world wide Research on portable fuel cells has been in progress for cell phones, computers, military applications etc. ZERO REGIO, and Europe´s approach to the hydrogen era Dr. Heinrich Lienkamp/Infraserv Höchst/Energies and Utilities/Frankfurt, Germany

  5. Deployment Strategy - Where do we want to go? Snapshot 2020 In the period up to 2020, hydrogen is likely to be produced from conventional energy sources. Hydrogen will be stored and distributed in different ways, depending on the application. Stationary fuel cells (combined heat and power) will be available in some hundred thousand at a cost target of 1000-2000 €/kWe. Fuel cell vehicles will be in operation in some hundred thousand. The cost target for a fuel cell motor is at 100 kWe. The fuel cells for portable applications are established in the market at a cost target of 1-2 €/We. ZERO REGIO, and Europe´s approach to the hydrogen era Dr. Heinrich Lienkamp/Infraserv Höchst/Energies and Utilities/Frankfurt, Germany

  6. Present EC activities in Transport A project family ‚Hydrogen for Transport‘ is active Hylights – coordiantes overall transport demo. activities Roads2Hycom – coordinates research activities Hychain – Demonstration of smaller vehicles (scooters etc.) HyFleet-Cute – Demonstration of Buses (FC & ICE) Zero Regio – Demonstration of FC-cars Premia – Assessment framework for transport demonstrations ‚www.H2moves.eu‘ – for details We shall focus on Zero Regio in this presentation ZERO REGIO, and Europe´s approach to the hydrogen era Dr. Heinrich Lienkamp/Infraserv Höchst/Energies and Utilities/Frankfurt, Germany

  7. The Project Zero Regio – Project Objectives Overall objective: Develop & demonstrate zero-emission road transport systems for European cities Specific objectives: H2-source: By-product & On-site reforming H2-transport & refuelling infrastructure 700 bar technology FCV (passenger cars) - demonstration Technology & socio-economic assessment Dissemination Ways for quicker market penetration ZERO REGIO, and Europe´s approach to the hydrogen era Dr. Heinrich Lienkamp/Infraserv Höchst/Energies and Utilities/Frankfurt, Germany
