  1. Rules to Live by, Or at least things you need to think about. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment. Don't never whittle towards you and never spit against the wind. There's two theories to arguing with a woman. Neither one works.   Letting the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier 'n putting it back in. If you're ridin' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there. If you get to thinking you're a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else's dog around. Be cautious in choosing a mate, Don't go settlin' for one who can't open the gate. A mountain lion felt so good after eating an entire bull he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him........... The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day. Don't squat with your spurs on. Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco. If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging. It don't take a genius to spot a goat in a flock of sheep. Always drink upstreamfrom the herd. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it over and put it back in your pocket. There are three kinds of cowboys: The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. And the rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves Welcome to the first edition of the RGR Monthly publication. Dawson Dugan and I thought that this would be a great way to get to know some of our RGR members. In these issues you will find some interesting facts about a few of our featured members. This month is all about Mica McGuire and Lawless Lori Sue. Each month we would like to feature one cowboy and one cowgirl. What is coming up for the current month. Things to look forward to in the coming months. A definition of a word we use at RGR or in SASS. And you never know what else you might find in an issue of the RGR Monthly Publication. If there is something that you would like me to add to the edition, please let me know and I will gladly put it in the next issue. 2. Treat they Neighbor as we want them to treat you! One Sunday morning an old cowboy entered a church just before services were to begin.Although the old man and his clothes were spotlessly clean, he wore jeans, a denim shirt and boots that were very worn and ragged. In his hand he carried a worn out old hat and an equally worn out bible. The Church he entered was in a very upscale and exclusive part of the city. It was the largest and most beautiful church the old cowboy had ever seen. The people of the congregation were all dressed with expensive clothes and accessories. As the cowboy took a seat, the others moved away from him.No one greeted, spoke to, or welcomed him. They were all appalled at his appearance and did not attempt to hide it. The preacher gave a long sermon about Hellfire and brimstone and a stern lecture on how much money the church needed to do God's work.As the old cowboy was leaving the church, the preacher approached him and asked the cowboy to do him a favor. "Before you come back in here again, have a talk with God and ask him what He thinks would be appropriate attire for worship."The old cowboy assured the preacher he would. The next Sunday, he showed up for the services wearing the same ragged jeans, shirt, boots, and hat. Once again he was completely shunned and ignored. The preacher approached the man and said, "I thought I asked you to speak to God before you came back to our church.""I did," replied the old cowboy."If you spoke to God, what did he tell you the proper attire should be for worshiping in here?" asked the preacher."Well, sir, God told me that He didn't have a clue what I should wear. He says He's never been in this church! Upcoming Events Christmas Party December 13th Things to Remember

  4. SASS Alias: Mica McGuire SASS number: 18526 Real Name: John Milloway How did you pick your SASS alias? All the historical names were taken. After picking three none historical names that were already taken I used my mother’s maiden name and sat down with a cowboy dictionary (that my wife gave me) and found names that rolled with McGuire, Mica McGuire. Age only if you want us to know: Soon to be 46 How long have you been shooting guns other than in Cowboy Action and in what capacity? 41 years. My father taught us how to shoot and reload. We hunted some and shot just for fun. How did you hear about SASS and get interested? On TV. I called a local gun shop and found out where there was a club. How long have you been in SASS or Cowboy action shooting? 11-12 years Does anyone else in your family belong to SASS and shoot? Not yet???? What is you long term goal for SASS? Mature with the sport. What is your favorite western movie or television? Open Range What do you like best about SASS? At first I shot only for the competition but I have met some very interesting people. But the thing that has impressed me the most is the willingness of most top shooter to share tips to help you become a better shooter as well as the readiness for complete strangers to offer you there guns when one of yours goes down. I have tried to model that behavior. What would you like to see changed about SASS? I like the sport and don’t want to see is changed dramatically. The proposed changes in categories, that seems to already be in the works before the governors have voted on it, troubles me some. Time will tell if it is a good thing or not. What advise would you give to someone just joining SASS? Don’t get in a rush. Try everyone’s equipment that offers and hopefully save yourself buying four sets of the wrong guns! What is your favorite SASS legal gun you shoot? Trap Door in 45-70 What guns do you currently shoot in SASS? Ruger New Vaqueros in .357, 4 5/8" , 73' Deluxe Border Rifle 18 1/2" barrel in .357 and a 97 pump shotgun 18”. (12 gauge) What’s Behind an Alias?Things we have learned about:

  5. SASS Alias: Lawless Lori Sue SASS number: 80852 Real Name: Lori Killough How did you pick your SASS alias? I wanted something which kept my first name and an adjective that had the same first letter as my first name. The Sue part was because my partner Cindy and I met in Nashville in 1990, where it seemed that all the women had double names like Ellie Mae, etc., so she started calling me Lori Sue. Sue is not my real middle name. Age only if you want us to know: I was 71 years old in May. I retired from the federal governmentin 2000. How long have you been shooting guns other than in Cowboy Action and in what capacity? I shot for a short period while I was in high school (55 years ago) with my brother-in-law. He died a year ago and left me all his reloading equipment. I thought I was going to sell it on eBay to get it out of my garage before CAS came into my life. I now reload  .38 special, 12 gauge, .45 ACP and 45-70 Govt. How did you hear about SASS and get interested? I was riding my motorcycle on a beautiful weekend last spring, and stumbled on the New Mexico Outdoor Exposition at the range. Wheeling Dealing Don, whom I have known for 7 years through another of my hobbies, radio control flying, was at Hayes City and strapped some guns on me. I came to the next competition, and I was hopelessly hooked. How long have you been in SASS or Cowboy action shooting? I've been shooting CAS for 5 months. Does anyone else in your family belong to SASS and shoot? No. What do you like best about SASS? I love playing cowgirl, just as I did as a child. Both my maternal grandparents and an uncle had large cattle ranches in northern California, and I reveled in spending summers working cattle, riding and haying. I enjoy the sense of accomplishment when I hit the targets. I like the costuming part of CAS. I love the camaraderie and being around people who unabashedly immerse themselves in fantasy. I'm comforted in knowing that CAS is probably the safest firearms sport around. What would you like to see changed about SASS? I think it's perfect the way it is. What is you long term goal for SASS? To have as much fun at my very last match as my first match. I am competing with myself, and that alone will measure my success. As a gunfighter, I would take shooting clean over shooting fast. What advise would you give to someone just joining SASS? Have fun and don't worry about the scores. What is your favorite western movie or television? Four movies: Once Upon A Time In The West, One-Eyed Jacks, Tombstone and The Quick And The Dead. What is your favorite SASS legal gun you shoot? My 1873 Carbine. What guns do you currently shoot in SASS? Two Ruger New Vaquero  stainless steel revolvers in .38 special. An 1873 20 inch round-barrel carbine in .38 special by Uberti. Two 1897 shotguns in 12 gauge; one by TTN and one by Norinco. I hope to get into Wild Bunch shooting in the future with my 1911A .45 ACP. I will want to get a larger caliber 1873 rifle for Wild Bunch, probably .45 Long Colt. I hope to also get into long-range shooting with my recently acquired Remington New Match Rolling Block rifle in .45-70 Govt. by Pedersoli. What’s Behind an Alias?Things we have learned about:
