  5. What should you be doing on Career Cruising? • 1. Career Matchmaker- (grade 9 & 10) • save careers in your portfolio for use with your senior project • “high school program of study” to help you chose courses that will be appropriate for your chosen career field • 2. Community Service Record (grade 9-12) • Log all community service into portfolio for • NHS requirements • Challenge program • Resume/ Employment/ College applications • 3. Job Shadowing –(grade 11) • Upload a copy of the summary and thank you for use in your senior paper

  6. www.careercruising.com • 4. School Search– (Grade 11) • ASSIGNMENT DUE 1/29/14 • Save at least 3-5 schools in your portfolio using school selector • Must be completed in order to attend the college fair • Visit the representatives from these schools at the college fair

National College Fair • Who-- YOU • 11th grade students and parents • When: Thursday February 6, 9:00am – noon • Where: David Lawrence Convention Center, Pittsburgh • Why: • Meet with representatives from postsecondary schools throughout the country • Gather/request information • Attend planning workshops

National College Fair • College Fair Video (part 1 6:32 min) • Considered a school field trip if: • 1. turn in permission slip by 1/29/2014 • 2. preregister at the www.gotomyncf.com website • Print bar code registration form for colleges to scan to sign up for more info • 3. complete career cruising – school search assignment • 4. check in with counselor at convention center • Transportation • Parents are encouraged to accompany students to fair • Can provide personal transportation • If there is enough interest, a bus may be provided from the high school • Must sign up in guidance by 1/29/2014 if interested in a bus.

  9. College testing– SAT/ ACT • When? Junior/Senior year • How often? 2 or 3 times starting 11th grade • How do I register? Testing website • www.collegeboard.org • www.actstudent.org • Where? • SAT given at WM March , October & June • Deadline to register for March Test is 2/7/14 • How do I prepare? • Afterschool group Thursdays 1/30 to 3/6 Sign up in guidance

Senior Year Scheduling • Timeline (tentative) • 2/25 Scheduling presentation 2nd period– distribute materials • 3/5-3/7 Counselors in computer room during lunch to answer questions • 2/27 Community night / curriculum fair 6:00- 8:00 pm • At the Middle School • 3/1 – 3/7 Input schedule request into computer • Options to consider • Post secondary requirements (math/science) • Honors Diploma • Dual Enrollment • Early Work Release
