  2. A few words on LPN… • LWTC shares an LPN program with Edmonds Community College • Today’s presentation will not cover information regarding application to LPN *Info. sessions, applications and advising for LPN are all handled at Edmonds There is no formal LPN to RN bridge program at LWTC

  3. General Program Information • Day program only • Full time • Transfer option to UW Bothell for BSN • Length of program (2yrs: 6 quarters) in some years summer quarter has been available • NCLEX/ WA State board pass ratein 2008/2009 (WA State DOH website: Nursing Commission) RN: 98% (46/47)

  4. Program Details • Competitive admission (no waitlist) • RN admission: Fall, Winter, Spring • Estimated costs for the 2010-2011 school year are: 92 credits Tools/Books $2,259.00* Tuition/Fees $11,141.60* Total Program Cost $13,400.60* Represents tuition w/ estimated lab fees for an in-state student *Estimated for 10/11

  5. Application Deadline Information Courses cannot be “in progress” when submitting an application. CNA licensure must be complete before submitting an application.

  6. GPA Bearing Coursework required for complete application • ENGL& 101 • MATH&146(Statistics) • BIOL&241 (Anatomy & Physiology 1) • BIOL&242 (Anatomy & Physiology 2) • PSYC&200 (Lifespan Psychology) • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better • Points for this application element are tabulated by multiplying the cumulative GPA by 10 Science courses must have been completed within last 7 years

  7. Non-GPA bearing courses required for a complete application… • CHEM &121 or HS Chemistry not older than 7 years from date of HS graduation. • CNA coursework (at LWTC, this represents 11 credit hours of coursework taken in one quarter) • BIOL&211 (Cell Biology) needed before taking BIOL&241 (A&P 1) at LWTC Science courses must have been completed within last 7 years

Recommendations… • Two (2) recommendations needed: • 1from college faculty member or college instructor • 1 from an employer, co-worker, instructor, faculty advisor or counselor • Recommenders must fill out forms provided in packet, place in sealed envelope and give back to you. Submit these with your application packet.

  9. TEAS (Version 5)= Test of Essential Academic Skills • Reading – paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions (48items, 58 minutes) • Math – whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion, stats (34 items, 51 minutes) • Science –science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, basic physical principles, and general science (54 items, 66 minutes) • English and Language Usage – punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling (34 items, 34 minutes) GRAND TOTAL=170 questions in 3 hours & 29 min. • www.lwtc.edu/assessment for TEAS questions

  10. Q: What are co-requisites?A: Needed before graduating from RN program itself and help a student be a more competitive applicant • Some students choose to take them before they apply. This is not required to be minimally qualified to apply. • Co-requisites can be used by selection committee to distinguish between applicants in the case of a tie. • NUTR&101 • BIOL&260 • CMST &210 or 220 or 230

  11. Q: What other things can I do to make myself a more “competitive applicant”?A: *Get appropriate work experience or volunteer experience *Have proof of education from an accredited institution

  12. Submitting Transcripts Before You Apply… • Don’t wait until you apply to submit official transcripts! You can submit them prior to applying.  The sooner you submit official transcripts, the sooner they can be officially evaluated.  • Our evaluators are now evaluating transcripts based on the program a student intends to enroll in.  • Once your transcripts are officially evaluated you will be able to track your progress using degree audit.  • Students will not need to resubmit transcripts with their application if they do so prior to the application deadline.

  13. Enrollment Services determines if an application packet contains all the required elements. If found complete, they cross-check what you self-reported with documents you provided, and tally your points. • The top 24 applicants are offered admission to the RN Program • There is no waiting list system at LWTC

Associate’s Degree • RN Spring 2011 Start • Total # of Applicants: 74 • Admitted to RN: 24 • Average GPA: 3.76 • Average TEAS Composite Score: 79.9 • Average Work Experience Pts.: 8.4 • Average Prior Education: Associate’s Degree

  15. Pre-Nursing DTA (92 credits) • A broad selection of academic courses which prepare students for upper division coursework leading to the Bachelor of Science, Nursing Degree. • Pre-nursing DTA students are prepared to apply to BSN programs at various institutions across Washington state

  16. Zeroing in on your Goal: Becoming a Competitive Applicant Have full class plan made during Allied Health GPS Advising Tutoring Competitive Applicant College Strategies

  17. If you have additional questions, the LWTC Advising Team can help -Quarter-by-quarter class plans are developed during Allied Health GPS. You will need to bring one of the following unless you already submitted official transcripts prior to session: *COMPASS scores *Unofficial transcripts *Agency assessed transcripts if international transcript Registration is required: (425)739-8300 -If you already have a class plan & want to check in on your progress OR are nearly complete with prereqs—go to drop-in advising. 10-15 minute types of questions can be handled in this setting by General Advisors. Drop-in Advising Hours Monday-Thursday 8am-3:30pm Fridays 9:30-3:30pm Tuesday-Wednesday 4:30-6:00pm (at the Enrollment Services windows area or in Assessment)
