  5. Africa by Radio • Vision • Africa by Radio is a body of Christian broadcasters unified by an agreed strategy, supporting God’s plan for Africa. We are committed to seeing that every man, woman and child in Africa is provided the opportunity to turn on a radio and hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a way and language they can understand, so they can become responsible members of His Church.

  6. Africa by Radio • Mission Statement • A strategic framework for avoiding duplication of effort • Encouraging co-operation; • Promote co-ordination; • Promote continental networking opportunities for Christian broadcasters;

Africa by Radio • Mission Statement • Encourage and support strategic research that will support the Africa by Radio vision; • Support the development of an extensive database for empowering Christian broadcasters in their actions; • Create and/or promote mechanisms to unify efforts to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through radio to all Africans;

Africa by Radio • Mission Statement • Encourage the development of special radio programmes for specific listener groups of a strategic nature; • Promote training and development of Christian broadcasters; • Develop a prayer network for Christian radio in Africa; • Support the World by Radio vision and mission.

Africa by Radio • Membership • These will include: • Christian broadcasters holding a valid broadcasting license; • Regional networks of broadcasters; • Individuals, organisations and production houses associated with Christian radio in Africa. • Must subscribe to the AbR statement of faith and the Lausanne covenant

  10. Africa by Radio Structure The Africa by Radio network will be structuredas follows: AbR Network Associates AbR Steering Committee AbR Regional and Specialist Group Associates

  11. Africa by Radio • Structure • The Steering Committee will • Gather information about strategic issues from network associates • The Steering committee will discuss and feed back strategic proposals or information to the associates.

  12. Africa by Radio • Meetings • The Steering Committee will meet twice a year. • Associates are welcome to participate in the Steering committee meetings if they wish. • Regional meetings will be organized for the purpose of regional consultation.

Africa by Radio • Finances • AbR has no bankaccount. • The steering committee members will be responsible for financing the cost related to their meetings, administration, etc. • Associates of Africa by Radio are responsible for carrying their own cost for network activities. • The Steering Committee may from time to time raise donations and request contributions from associates to cover approved costs.

Africa by Radio • Objectives for Strategic Issues • “Giants” of Africa: Poverty/unemployment, HIV/AIDS, sexism, tribalism, violence, family in crisis, crime and corruption. • To encourage the Africa by Radio associates to address these social issues by developing relevant programming and share effective strategies.

  20. Africa by Radio • Value of Partnerships • Partnership between media and church is not only desirable it is a necessity • God Builds His Kingdom through the Church • Media organizations have the expertise and experience to help the church use the tool effectively.

  21. Africa by Radio • Value of Partnerships • The result of Christian radio is not programs on air, but converted souls resulting in responsible believers as members in the church, or the planting of churches where they do not exist.

  24. Africa by Radio The church in Bumba was planted in 2004. Radio was the tool.

  25. Africa by Radio After some training and the work of the Holy Spirit the church doubled in 5 months from 250 – 500 members.

  26. Africa by Radio A new church was planted in a village outside the city in June 07.

  27. Africa by Radio When they contacted the pastor they were already 40 believers and had built this churchbuilding.

  31. Africa by Radio • Africa by Radio Members share between themselves a lot of expertice for the benefit of all members and associates: • Experience in Media • Strategic Planning • Technical experience and competency • Training • Access to broadcast stations • Etc.

Africa by Radio • The Key Cities Initiative • In 2007 the number of Urban dwellers for the first time outnumbered the Rural people globaly. • Key people for a nation live in the major cities • Young people are in majority. • Many people in a limited area are easy to reach by FM radio. • A common city culture

  33. Africa by Radio • The Key Cities Initiative • AbR is working together with the churches to identify the Key Cities in Africa. • So far four cities have got special attention: • Brazzaville – Congo The Republic • Lusaka – Zambia • Lagos – Nigeria • Harare - Zimbabwe

Africa by Radio • The Unreached People Groups • Africa by Radio coordinates efforts to see all major languages in Africa have Christian broadcasting • Needs the help of church leaders to identify the important languages. • Criteria: • A distinct language or dialect • Spoken by a considerable number of people • The broadcasts will be part of an overall strategic outreach
