The Medway UTC Model • 600 students (150 intake per year) • Business hours (e.g. 8.15am-5.15pm) • Pre 16: 60% general and enrichment, 40% technical • Post 16: 40% general and enrichment, 60% technical • Delivery through work-related projects • Instruction/mentoring/guidance through employers • Clear progression paths
Progress to date • Application unsuccessful March 2012 • Re-submit 16 November 2012 • Clarify vision • Clarify roles • Clarify demand • Clarify commitment
Key areas improved Curriculum Marketing and demand • Expanded research to sub region (813 sample size inc parents and employers) • 425 would possibly apply to the UTC, just 23% said ‘No’ • 75% parents would encourage a child to attend the UTC • Curriculum model with timetables and breakdown of content • Project outlines from BAE, BAM and Denne • Employer commitment matrix shows support in time and resources
Timeline • Submission of UTC application on 16 Nov 2012 • Panel interview will be held Jan/ Feb 2013 • Decision announced March 2013 • Project management plan in place for April start and location confirmation • Advertise Principal Designate Sept 2013, recruit Dec for star in April 2014….. • Medway UTC will open September 2014
