The first reason why convicts came to New Holland/New South Wales is because all the prisons in England were overflowing with convicts, so England sent many to Botany Bay and Port Arthur. 2. England thought it was a new beginning for all the convicts.

5. CONVICT PROFILES PAGE 1 Name: James Smith Age: 20 Occupation: Dustman James Smith was tried at Old Bailey, London on the 8th of December 1784 for stealing livestock (a horse). He was sentenced to transportation for 7 years, and left England on the Scarborough at the age of 20. Name: William Smith Age: 21 Occupation: Unknown William Smith was tried at Bodmin, Cornwall on the 25th of July 1785 for stealing an iron grappling hoop and other goods. He was sentenced to transportation for 7 years, and left England on the Scarborough at the age of 21. He died in 1788. Name: John Smith Age: 23 Occupation: Unknown John Smith Was tried at Exeter, Devon On the 14th of March 1785 for assault and highway robbery. He was sentenced to transportation for 7 years, and left England on the Charlotte at the age of 23.

Name: Mary Smith Age: 25 Occupation: Mantua Maker She was tried at Old Bailey, London on the 31st of May 1786 for stealing clothes. She was sentenced to transportation for 7 years, and left England on the Lady Penrhyn at the age of 25. She died in 1792.
