  2. Circa 1995, thousands of Chinese children suffering from lung infection were massively treated with a cheap antibiotic but with no warning on the potential side effects of this powerful drug. As a consequence of the considerable toxicity of the product, many children ended up with hearing loss, partial or total, but always irreversible.

  3. In rural China, a deaf child will be left out of normal social life if he stays in a remote area. All the children affected by the side effects of this antibiotic are now of an age to attend middle school. If they cannot have access to hearing aids and appropriate medical care (audiogram), they have no future.

  4. In collaboration with a Yunnan school for deaf children, • we have launched a program to help students from poor • families: 1) Hearing aids are collected in France and given to these children according to • - the level of hearing loss compatible with the device, • - the low income of the family. • (The second-hand hearing aids will undergo • a thorough technical control before • they are handed over to the children.) 2) Sponsoring of boarding students. Monthly cost: 30€.

  5. Definition of the hearing aid When carried by the user, this kind of device can correct a deficiency of the auditory system, compensate an auditory defect, prevent or reduce a handicap situation.

  6. DONATE YOUR OLD HEARING AIDS • CNB accept donations of old or worn hearing aids or hearing aids that are no longer in use. • If you wish to donate a hearing aid, securely package the donation and mail to: • Catherine AYREAU • Comité Norman Bethune • 13, rue de la Pastorale • 92130 Issy-les-Moulineaux
