European Rules /Nordic Reality • Denmark, Finland and Sweden are members of the European Union. Iceland and Norway are members of the internal market through the EEA Agreement • European rules apply • The Nordic countries have enjoyed a high level of consumer protection through the years
The Way Ahead • The revised General Product Safety Directive (2001/95/EC) will probably contribute to a more structured market surveillance activities • The main emphasis will be on post-marketing mechanisms • Countries in transition will in general benefit from adapting these rules
