On November 19, the museum El Prado was established. The museum El Prado is still open today and is visited by millions.
History of El Prado: Charles III had a architect Juan de Villanueva try to build a art gallery in 1785. The final finishing deciding was encouraged by Fedinand VII. Then the museum was soon finished on November 19th, 1819. With the Kings death the museum became a national property and was soon known as Prado National Museum.
El Prado holds many types of artwork such as: The Spanish School: The collection of Spanish run from the 12th century to the 19th century. Some painters from the Spanish School are El Greco, Diego De Velázquez, Francisco de Goya. Flemish and Dutch Schools: The Flemish and Dutch paintings are from the 16th century. Collections of paintings by Dutch artists such as Rogier van der Weyden, Hieronymous Bosch and, Pieter Brueghel. The 17th century painters are Peter Paul Rubens, and Anton van Dyck.
Italian School: Includes paintings from early renaissance to the 19th century. Some painters are Raphael and the 16th century painters of the Venetian School such as Tintoretto and Veronese, as well as Titian Caravaggio, and Gentileschi. German School: German’s collection of art is very small in El Prado. It does include works from the 16th and 17th centuries. The German painters are Albrecht Dürer ,Lucas Cranach, Baldung Grien, and Anton Raphael Mengs. French School: The paintings from the French school are from the 17th century. The painters from the French school are Nicolas Poussin, Claude Lorrain, and Jean-Antoine Watteau.
How El Prado affects today: El Prado helps people show how life was back then because of the way the painting is. A painting can you teach stuff about the time period that the person lived in. The paintings help you interpret history in another way. There is also many other artifacts and treasures in El Prado. Which helps people understand history better. The paintings and artifacts show how Spain has grown and evolved throughout time.
