  1. How are the Diamonds Mined and Processed? When a non-professional sees a diamond for the first time, there are four major thoughts in his mind. First is the beauty or the sparkle of the stone. Second will be a thought provoking thing about where were they found or brought from precious gemstone suppliers. The third though will be the strength and endurance of this stone. And the forth one would be how was it mined and processed into something so beautiful and sparkling. Many of us live in a misconception all our life that diamonds are unbreakable. Well, that is not true at all. Like the other gemstones, diamond can also develop cracks or scratches and can be broken down into pieces even if you have bought it from the wholesale designer jewelery distributors. Diamonds are one of the toughest gemstones but prone are to breakages in adverse conditions. Many people don’t have enough knowledge about how the diamonds are found or mined or how they are processed into a finished product. Let’s understand the complete procedure:

  2. How is Diamond Mined from the Earth’s Crust? There are basically two major methods through which the raw diamonds are extracted from beneath the earth. 1.Diamond Pipe Mining– Before commencing the process of mining, it is first of all essential to identify the prospect locations where diamonds can be found. The experienced geologists use the information collected through secondary sources of diamonds in order to reach the primary source of pipe deposits of this precious gemstone. Once they are successful in identifying the pipes and the presence of the gemstone in them, they move ahead with the process of insertion of the shanks into the ground. These shanks help in extracting the excess soil accumulated in the way to the raw diamond rocks. These rocks are then taken to the specialized plants for further inspection and processing. In this process the raw diamond stones are extracted and kept aside for further processing. 2.Alluvial Diamond Mining– This is another diamond mining process undertaken by the miners worldwide. This type of diamond mining is undertaken in the secondary deposit areas like the beaches and river banks. In this process a wall is constructed in order to divert the course of the river. Over a period of time the river will change its course leaving behind the muddy area which can now be utilized with the help of various mining equipment’s. When the requisite depth is achieved the raw stones are extracted and transported to the specialize units for further examination and processing.

  3. What are the steps involved in Diamond Processing? To the general people, an unpolished piece of rough diamond might not appeal much and cannot be imagined sparkling in the jewelry pieces. A finally processed diamond has to go through 4 stages as below: 1.Marking / Drawing –The first stage involves the process of marking or drawing to determine the perfect measurement in which the stone may be cut for the optimum advantage. The seasoned gemologists prefer using an ink pen to do the marking which might have some flaws. But the advanced technology markings are done with the help of computer-aided systems. These design software analyzes the overall size and weight of the stone and then commence the marking process with the help of a laser beam. 2.Sawing / Cleaving– Cleaving is the process in which the diamond is splitting into the parallel direction of the crystal grain. And this is done in a single blow! This process is majorly undertaken to cut the stone into pieces and check impurities or discrepancies, if any. Whereas sawing is the process of splitting the stone against the direction of the crystal grain. for any 3.Bruting– Bruting is theprocess of shaping the base of the diamond. This gives it an ultimate shape of a polished diamond. The base is made in such a way that it takes the shape of a girdle i.e. a narrow shape commencing from the edge of the stone. Bruiting is generally done manually by the gemologists, but with the introduction of latest technologies, it is done with the help of laser beams.

  4. 4.Polishing– Polishing processing of the surface of the gemstone. The diamond is one the most famous polished diamonds as it has 57 facets in it. Polishing is the final stage after which the diamond is ready to be used in jewelry pieces. is basically the round cut This was some important info about the mining and processing of the diamonds. Diamonds undergo a long journey before they reach their final customers. Purchasing diamonds from a wholesale distributor is always recommended, as you can save a lot of money and can also eliminate the middlemen. You can also get a lot of options to choose from while purchasing from wholesalers. Getting diamonds at an affordable rate add another twinkle in your eyes!
