  2. GeneralLibrary Information • Library Hours 8:00-3:30 • All students need a written note from the classroom teacher. • Use of the computers must be approved by the librarian or aide. • Please be courteous of other students studying in the library.

  3. What Types of Books can I Find??? • Fiction books are story books, invented stories, and imaginary tales. • All fiction books are arranged in alphabetical order by the author’s last name. • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling will have a call number on the spine. FIC --- for Fiction ROW ---Author’s first three letters in his last name. Harry Potter FIC ROW

  4. Non-FictionBooks • Non-Fiction books are books containing factual information. These are books about whales, dinosaurs, baseball etc… • Non-Fiction books are organized by Dewey Numbers. • A book about whales would • be found in the 500’s. • Dewey Groups @ mikids.com Killer Whales 599

  5. ReferenceBooks • Reference Books are encyclopedias, atlases, dictionaries etc.

  6. WhereDo I Find Fiction Books??? • As you come in the front. All fiction books are located on the left side of the media center. Fiction Books are in order by the author’s last name.

  7. Non-FictionBooks • All non-fiction books, reference, and biographies are on the right. Non-Fiction books are in order by Dewey Numbers.

  8. How do I Know What is in Our Library??? • All classroom and library computers have a quicksearch icon on the desktop. All of our books, audio visuals, and related web sites are listed. • Quick Search

  9. Check-out Procedures • In order to check out books you must have your library card. • The check out period is for two weeks. • When you receive an overdue notice in homeroom see me that day. • Fines of $.10 per day are issued if there is no attempt on the students’ part to take care of an overdue book notice. • Reference and Audio Visuals may be checked out overnight.

  10. Book Check-Out • See a librarian to check out books, if no one is available… • Make sure the InfoCentre screen in my office is on check out. • Scan your library barcode label in the book. Your name will come up on the screen. • Scan the barcode of the book. It is on the back. • Watch to make sure the name of the book is listed on the screen. • The due date will come up. • Clicking next will clear your library ID.

  11. Book Check-In • Place the book in the book drop in the front of the media center or… • Give the elementary or high school librarian the book in the back. • If you checked the book out from the high school collection please make the elementary librarian aware of that.

  12. ComputerPolicies • Acceptable Use Policy- All students have signed an AUP. Remember the rules and policies of agreement violations. • Southland Acceptable Use Policy • Infraction of the rules will lead to disciplinary action.

  13. ComputerEtiquette • Logging onto a computer must be done through the librarian or aide. • Either a note from the teacher or a description of the assignment and teacher’s name is necessary. • No e-mail may be accessed at school. • No games!

  14. We are Here to Help!!! • Don’t hesitate to ask. That is what we are here for. • If we don’t know, we will try to find out. • There are many educational websites available to the school through InfoCentre. • There will be a list of Jr. High Favorites posted each month. • If you’ve read a good book. Let us know. • We hope you have a great school year!
