Background to the process • This booklet explains “The Package” and information required by In Work to assist with a successful placement in Australia within the “Skills Shortage” category. • For detailed information on General Skilled Migration it is recommended you visit the website www.immi.gov.au/skilled/ • The time taken for processing the Australian application through In Work depends on your skills versus the skills shortage list and the accuracy and quality of information submitted. • If your application is not complete in all respects, there is every possibility that it may be rejected. So take care to fill in the correct details without missing any information. • A flat administration fee of AU$150 is charged to process your information.   4. IELTS TEST • The requirements are:- • It is requirement that applicants for visas (within Australia) have vocational English. To satisfy this requirement, you must have a reasonable command of the English language. You must be able to read, write, understand and speak English well enough to communicate effectively for most purposes and in your field of business. http://www.australia-migration.com/page/english_requirements/249 • To evidence that you meet this requirement you must:- • Provide evidence that you are a native English speaker; or / and • Undertake the (IELTS) test. Example of IELTS tests http://www.ielts.org/test_takers_information/test_sample.aspx • IELTS test requirements • You only need to take the general training test (not the academic test). • You need to achieve a band score of at least 5, from a maximum of 9, for all four components of the test (speaking, reading, listening and writing) to achieve 15 points and at least 7 from all four components if you are claiming 25 points for English • IELTS is the International English Language Testing System which tests English proficiency across the globe. Conducting 1.5 million tests in 2010 globally, IELTS is the world’s most popular high stakes English language proficiency test. • What is the test format and how long will it take? • IELTS has four parts – Listening (30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes), Writing (60 minutes) and Speaking (11–14 minutes). The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Listening, Reading and Writing tests are done in one sitting. The Speaking test may be on the same day or up to seven days before or after the other tests • Why are there two versions of the test? • IELTS has two versions – Academic and General Training. The Academic test is for those who want to study at a tertiary level in an English-speaking country. The General Training test is for those who want to do work experience or training programs, secondary school or migrate to an English-speaking country. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking tests but different Reading and Writing tests. • You meet the English language threshold if you hold a valid passport from, and are a citizen of, one of the following countries: • the United Kingdom; • the United States of America; • Canada; • the Republic of Ireland; DRAFT ONLY NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION

Should a potential employers request other information then In Work will ask you to provide it. • POSITION REQUIRED: (You need to have researched the Australian market and tell us the position you are after. For example some countries “Trades People” are known as “Engineers”, this does not apply to Australia ie Electricians- industrial or domestic, dental technicians either prosthetics or ceramics) • AREA OF SPECIALTY: (What area are you specialised to work or most experienced in) • REQUESTED LOCATION • (This helps to determine if you have researched Australia. It also indicates to us where you would prefer to live and what type of person you are ie city dwellers or country folk. Leads to successful happy placements. • PHOTOGRAPHS: Self: To put on the resume. This is a representation of yourself and can sell you. This is a format that Australian businesses are used to and how you prefer to be presented with your information.  Do not use acronyms, they do not travel internationally. You may either • Submit your resume as a word document so that it can be copied and pasted into this format before being presented to Australian Businesses. • Presenting your resume in this format is the preferred option. Certificates • Integrity of application Following amendments to the migration legislation, a visa application may now be refused where an applicant provides bogus documents or information that is false or misleading. Further information is available from the department’s website www.immi.gov.au • Certificates - Work related • Submitting certificates certifies that you are qualified in what you say your area of qualification. • Certificates - Non work related achievements • Proof of who you are as a person.   11. Profile and Work Photo PROFILE PHOTOS: • First and foremost, your profile picture stands for your identity, of who you are. The basic essence of a Profile Photo is equal to proving ownership of your profile. • It proves there is a real person behind the application. • Make sure this is a professional photo and represents you as the professional business person. WORK PHOTO: • In some jobs such as dentists, welders this can be proof of your work. Video: • A short 3 – 4 minute video of you talking about yourself and your work. Translating Documents • It is essential that all documents are translated into English. • English translations Documents in languages other than English should be accompanied by an English translation. If the applicant is onshore, the translation should be undertaken by a translator accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI). Failure to do so may significantly affect the processing of your application. Translations provided by non-accredited translators overseas should be endorsed by the translator with their full name, address, telephone number, and details of their qualifications and experience in the language being translated. Skills Assessment • Skills assessment • In some trades you may be required to have your skills assessed as suitable for your occupation by an assessing authority (as outlined on the Skilled Occupation Lists (SOL) which are available from the department’s website ww.immi.gov.au/skilled/sol) for your nominated occupation. • You also need to find out if the occupation you have nominated requires you to be registered, licensed, or be a member of a professional or industry organisation. Where an Australian qualification is used as the basis for a skills assessment it must have been awarded as a result of undertaking a full-time Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students(CRICOS) registered course while being the holder of an eligible student visa. Note: These assessing authorities are responsible for undertaking skills assessment for migration purposes, and are NOT employment agencies. The assessing authorities will not reply to requests for job placement. Nor can you give advice on the allocation of points. In addition to your skills assessment, you may need to obtain licensing or registration in your occupation before you can work in the state or territory where you settle. You may also require additional training or membership of a particular industry association.
