  4. A mashup is a website or application that combines content from more than one source into an integrated experience. Content used in mashups is typically sourced from a third party via a public interface or API. Other methods of sourcing content for mashups include Web feeds (e.g. RSS or Atom), web services and Screen scraping. Many people are experimenting with mashups using Microsoft, Google, eBay, Amazon, Flickr, and Yahoo APIs, which has led to the creation of Mashup Editors. MASHUPS

WIDGETS A portable chunk of code that can be installed and executed within any separate HTML-based web page by an end user without requiring any additional compilation.A widget adds content to an HTML page, so that the page is not static.Widgets are used by bloggers, social network users and owners of personal web sites. They exist on homepage sites such as – iGoogle, Netvibes, Pageflakes…

Current State of the Widget • Nearly every Web 2.0 company includes a user-distributed widget in their viral-marketing strategy. • Large brands are beginning to build widgets for brand expansion into social networks and personal pages. • Widget-only companies are being funded and launched (slide, rockyou, etc). • Widgets have become so popular widget-aggregators have begun to launch.

  8. Popular Widgets • The most-popular and widely used widgets typically support photo/video sharing, music sharing and chat/presence. • Netvibes, iGoogle, Dapper.net, Organizations (Zim’s Example)

  10. REMIX • A term from the music industry which refers to re-editing songs. The remix is the game arena of the alternative music industry. Recently, the remix has found its ways outside the music industry. • In the last few months, new websites which remix the web have been launched. The use of widgets , gadgets & RSS feeds all put together on a simple HTML page – has become incredibly popular.

Conclusion • As Widgets, Gadgets & Remixes become popular - the art of mixing becomes elegant , hence the taste of the surfers become more sensitized. • It is now clear that mashups are not just another hobby – but a new battlefield for enterprises and mashups’ creators. • To sum up - Gadgets , Widgets & Remixes…The more the merrier.
