Leading the Process of Change • Involve people in creating the vision • Sell the need for change • Connect the vision to people’s jobs • Get the right people on the train and the wrong people off the train! • Break the plan into bite size actionable chunks • Celebrate success and communicate progress

  3. “It’s the business stupid!” • The purpose of IT - drive business value • The foolishness of alignment • Three questions: • What outcomes are we striving for? • How do my efforts help us achieve them? • If our objectives don’t support these key outcomes, why are we doing them? • No project without a customer!

  4. Communication • If you think you have communicated enough, communicate some more! • The importance of listening • “What language are you speaking?” • Can you spot the CIO in the boardroom? • Tailor your message to your audience • The need for marketing • Communicating tough issues

  5. Relationship Management • Focus on helping others succeed • Be a team builder – give others the credit • Building credibility • Say what you mean & mean what you say! • What’s in it for them? • Perception is Reality • Leaders serve • When you’re a leader, it’s never about you!

Developing People • Talents/passion of your people - your only real competitive advantage! • Developing leaders is your top priority • Leading “persons” • People don’t leave because they’ve had the opportunity to grow and develop, they leave because they haven’t! • Leverage people’s unique strengths • Work with what you have – Pat Riley… • Recognize your people’s efforts & successes
