Graduation Requirements • In addition to 230 credits and passing the CAHSEE you need COMMUNITY SERVICE • 40 HOURS total for all 4 years of High School • Community Service is: • Voluntary work intended to help people in a particular area • Unpaid work intended to be of social use • Make sure the activity and location you choose to do your hours will count towards your community service requirement, it must be a non-profit organization…See Mrs. Reteguin or Mrs. Arredondo for additional questions or refer to the Handout titled, “How Can I Do My Community Service Hours?” • You are responsible for turning in your Log indicating who/what/when/with who you did your hours to Mrs. Reteguin or Mrs. Arredondo. If we do not have your hours, you cannot graduate! • Your hours are separate from the 40 hours your parents must do each year

  3. Log into Naviance and click on the link that says Volunteer Locations Where do you start to search for locations to do your hours?

  4. Once you get here click on Volunteers

  5. Now you can begin your search using the search criteria. Search by typing in a keyword, by category, or by “suitable for teens”

  6. Remember to turn in your logs to the counselor when you are done with your hours • Logs are available in the office or by printing them out yourselves on Naviance Click Document Library

  7. Click on the Community Service log and you can print OR just come by the main office and get a copy • You can also access the information sheet that indicates “what counts for hours from here)

  8. Keep in mind that you will be asked about community service in your college application • Keep in mind that you will be able to discuss your volunteer experience with future employers • Choose a location that interests you • EXAMPLE: If you want to be a teacher offer your services for tutoring. If you want to be a doctor, volunteer at a children hospital. • Remember, it must be a non-profit organization

  9. STUDENTS • Using the volunteer locations link, search 3 sites where you would like to volunteer. • Write down the name of the organization, phone number and address. • Follow up with the site and ask if you are able to volunteer. • **Remember to take the community service log with you when you go** If you have any questions, you are always welcome to come to our office, we are available during lunch or after school  Counseling Department
