  3. Who are Social Scientist 1. The study of human society and of individual relationships in and to society. 2. A scholarly or scientific discipline that deals with such study, generally regarded as including sociology, psychology, anthropology, economics, political science, and history.

  4. What is Empirical Data The dictionary definition of empirical evidence is evidence relating to or based on experience or observation. This type of evidence is necessary for a theory to be confirmed.

  5. Three Mechanisms of Parental Influence; • Direct Interaction • Emotional Identification • Family Stories

  6. Direct Interaction Involves direct communication between the parent and the child; • Transfer of knowledge • Reward for desired behavior • Punishment for undesired behavior

  7. Emotional Identification By the age of 4 or 5: • The child begins to self identify as possessing characteristics of the parents as their own • This is more common when the child looks similar to the parents • This influence is even grater if the parent supports the child's actions with positive reinforcement

  8. Family Stories • Are a symbolic form of identification • Centered around the accomplishments of a particular family member • Recounting these sorties allows the child to feel pride due to the biological relationship to tis persons accomplishments.
