  2. Faraway on the island of Syprus, there was a man named Pygmalion. He was a very famous sculptor. He was so good his statues seemed come alive in his hands.

  3. During a break from his work Pygmalion took a walk by a creek. He looked up and saw a beautiful face in the clouds. He fell deeply in love with the face. As soon as the face came, it vanished.

  4. As soon as Pygmalion got home, he knew what statue he would create. He chiseled and hammered on the cold marble. Afterward he looked at the wonderful woman.

  5. Pygmalion put her in the finest cloth and jewelry. He named her Galatea. She was beautiful, but their was one problem. She was stone.

  6. Pygmalion prayed that Aphrodite would bring the marble woman to life. He hoped that Aphrodite would grant his wish.

  7. Pygmalion walked home with very high hopes that his wish would be granted. But, when he reached his home he saw the statue was as still as ever.

  8. Staring at the statue, Pygmalion felt like he failed. He stood up walked over to Galatea and hugged her feeling disappointment and sadness.

  9. Suddenly he felt the cold, hard, stone turn into warm soft flesh. She was alive! They celebrated.

  10. They then got married, and they had two children. The boy’s name was Pophos and the girl’s name was Metharme.

  11. They lived happily ever after!
