What Do I Do First? • Discuss your idea with your Academic Chair and, using MS Word, type up a brief description of the course or curriculum you wish to propose. • Read General Procedures for submitting course or curriculum proposals. The General Procedures can be found on the Governance website at http://www.sunysuffolk.edu/Governance

  3. Where do I go to find the Proposal Forms and General Procedures? • All forms and the General Procedures can be found on the Governance website at http://www.sunysuffolk.edu/Governance. Just click on Curriculum and follow the links accordingly. • Remember—You MUST USE MS WORD when preparing all proposal documentation.

  4. Proposal Journey for Single-Campus Proposal • Send LETTER OF INTENT to College Associate Dean for Curriculum Development Philip Christensen • Associate Dean determines if proposal is single or multi-campus proposal and completes bottom half of form. • Associate Dean completes the Response to Proposal form which will provide information about how to move forward with the proposal (e.g. what forms to use and things to consider as you develop your proposal.) • Associate Dean returns Letter of Intent and Response to Proposal forms to the Proposer with cc’s to the appropriate Executive Deans and Curriculum Chairs. **Remember—Send everything electronically**

Single-Campus Proposal • Once you have received the Letter of Intent and Response back from the Associate Dean of Curriculum Development designating the proposal as a single-campus proposal, • collaboratively develop proposal using proposal forms and General Procedures as guidelines. • Be sure to work through your Academic Chairs and Executive Deans or appropriate Associate Deans of Academic Affairs, particularly on budget and facilities issues. • Feel free to contact your Curriculum Committee Chair and the Associate Dean for Curriculum Development as questions arise regarding your proposal.

  6. Single-Campus Proposal • Submit for Departmental Vote • Do not forget to have the Executive Dean's Acknowledgment of Support Form completed by the Executive Dean. • All faculty in the department where the proposed course or curriculum is housed have the right to vote on the proposal. Departments that may be affected by the proposal should also be made aware of the proposal so they can provide feedback. Voting Guidelines can be found on the Governance Curriculum website

  7. Single-Campus Proposal • Electronically submit complete proposal packet to Campus Curriculum Chair (with appropriate CCs). Names of Committee Chairs can be found on Governance Curriculum website. • Committee Chair verifies proposal is complete and has it posted on Governance website for review by College community.

  8. Single-Campus Proposal • Campus Curriculum Committee reviews and votes on proposal. • If rejected, Committee Chair sends proposal back with reasons for rejection. • If accepted, Committee Chair sends proposal to appropriate Governance body for vote and sends committee vote to Scott Mandia (Governance webmaster), with CCs to Phil Christensen and Tina Good. • Governance Chair sends outcome of governance vote to Scott Mandia (Governance webmaster) with cc’s to Tina Good, and Phil Christensen

  9. Single-Campus Proposal • Webmaster posts votes on Curriculum website. • Associate Dean follows up on curriculum proposal, e.g., seeking SUNY approval, if necessary, and making changes on the website, on Banner, and in the catalog.

  14. What Deadlines Do I Need to Know? • Dates of Department Meetings for those Departments affected. • Check with Academic Chairs • Curriculum Committee Meeting Dates • Meeting dates can be found online on either the Administrative Calendar or the Governance website. • Governance Meeting Dates • Meeting Dates can be found online on either the Administrative Calendar or the Governance website • SUNY/SED Deadlines • Check with College Associate Dean for Curriculum Development • Catalog/Master Schedule Deadlines • Check with Academic Chairs, Executive Deans, or College Associate Dean for Curriculum Development. • ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO CURRICULUM CHAIR AT LEAST 4 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MEETING.
