  1. A SEMINAR ONCLUSTER COMPUTING PRESENTED BY:- PRATEEK SHUKLA B.TECH (4TH yr.) Dept. of CSE

  2. What is Clustering? Though cluster computing doesn’t seem to be anything too special, your boss thinks so, and now, so do you. This arrangement of computers can be linked in a number of ways, with few cluster computing downsides. • All computers share the same hard drive • All computers share a common directory • All computers share the same network • All computers can run the same programs • All the computers trust each other and don’t need to verified When creating a cluster of computers, the process can be simple if the network professional knows what they are doing, though the process can be more complicated the more computers which need to be connected. Even at home, you can create a computer network by simply giving a program on your cell phone or computer the permission it needs to access the contents of the hard drive.

  3. Need for Cluster Computing Basically Cluster Computing is required in business field. Earlier people used internet largely for reading available content such as articles, etc. needed for information, both gathering & sharing. Now a days internet is playing a vast role in information sharing, resource sharing, business growth & expansion both at national & international. For e.g. bank websites allow transactions worldwide irrespective of the user’s & branch’s location via internet. Such transactions not only are meant to be secured but also reliable of the fact that only the data regarding the right account holder is updated. The basic conditions for Cluster Computing requirements are:- • One’s company has expanded. • One’s company has to use higher functioning programs. • One’s departments have grown or moved to other offices. • One’s tasks are becoming harder to complete with singular computers.

  4. When a Cluster is Necessary? A Cluster’s formation is solely & entirely the decision of the owner or chairperson of an organization. Its him /her who decides whether the organization should be “CLUSTER-ified” or not. The main reasons for following Cluster Computing in an organization can be:- • Share files across the office • Share files across the floors of a building • Share files across the nation • Share files internationally • Have a faster computer system • Always be connected

  5. Types of Clusters There are a few different computer clustering methods of which to be aware when you are trying to connect to other systems. The various types of Computer Clusters are:- • Grid computing – This is what most companies are already using right now. The computers don’t have to work together during the process, but they need to share information. • Load balancing clusters – These clusters help to share the load when computers are running the same programs at the same time. • High availability clusters – This two node system of clusters helps to make sure that the computer system is always available. • Compute clusters – When you need to do a number of computations during the work day, this is the system you might want to use.

  6. International Computer Clusters Though it might seem impossible to cluster with other computers on the other side of the world, this is not the can anymore. With international networks, you can share drives and information without having to be in the same country. You can even adjust the network to be visible to some, though not to others. Networking can also be done with cloud computing, meaning that your information it stored in the air, and you can reach up to get it when needed. Though the idea of international computer clusters might not be something you need right now, it very well may be something that you need in the future. Brush up on clustering with as many computer cluster resources as possible.

  7. How to make use of it? Cluster computing isn’t just used for the big boys of business. You can actually use networking over a computer to help you with your social life. Well, you can use it to do some work for yourself so that you can then have the time for a social life. We’re not saying you’re going to get a date from this sort of networking. You can find cluster computing to be pretty helpful when you have a home office as well as computers for various people in your home. You can use cluster computing to make sure that you can get to all of the files you need (i.e. your social calendar) in all areas of your home. Or you might want to make sure you can look at embarrassing pictures of all of your friends and family on as many computers as possible. You can use a personal computer network to:- • Make sure your calendars are synced • Sync your smart phone to your computer files

  8. Future of Cluster Computing Cluster computing is no longer something which people see in science fiction movies. This system of networking between computers is not only necessary to continue to help business become more efficient, but it also helps programs run more quickly while also allowing people across the network cluster to access the same programs, files, and information. It makes sense to do this, doesn’t it? And since people like to communicate in business, it makes sense that you cluster computing is only going to become more popular as the economy rebounds and businesses grow even more.

  9. Downsides of Cluster Computing There are some drawbacks to Clustering also, like:- • Risk of information leak over the network. • Requires a big investment. • Working, manipulating & modifying a single database by multiple users may cause conflicts, loss of information, data redundancy & even system crashes. • Clustering requires commitment to a super computer, so once you are committed there is no going back.
