Collaboration Plans for Software Development Meeting at FNAL, October 2006

This document outlines the collaborative efforts from the FNAL meeting held on October 19-20, 2006, focusing on software development for tracking and reconstruction in particle physics experiments. It highlights two different time frames: the short haul and long haul, discussing immediate tasks such as tracking in VXD and TPC, as well as future plans for software integration and collaboration with Fermilab. Specific physics studies, including jet-finding algorithms, are presented, alongside discussions on funding issues and teamwork dynamics.

  1. Plans for Software 4th Concept Collaboration Meeting FNAL 19-20 October 2006

  2. General Issues • Two time frames to consider: • Short haul • Long haul • Collaborative Effort • Funding Issues

  3. The Very Short Haul • Valencia Meeting (two weeks) • Complete tracking in VXD Barrel + TPC • No digitization for VXD nor TPC • No muon reconstruction • Physics studies to present: • e+e- -> Zo -> uds (simple jet-finder) • e+e- -> HoZo -> Xm+m- (tracking resolution) • e+e- -> tt -> 6 jets (tracking performance) • Single particles: e+,m,p,p,Kshort, single jets • Beam background studies (in cooperation with SiD)

  4. The Semi- Short Haul • DCR (Dec. 10th or Jan. 2007 ?) • Complete tracking in VXD Endcaps • Digitization for VXD (should pick up one of the technology) • Some muon reconstruction • Physics studies to present: • More sofisticated jet-finder (Durham, Kt) • e+e- -> HoZo -> 2 jets, 4 jets • Hopefully c,b separation in jets

  5. The Long Haul • LCIO conformance • Collaboration with Fermilab • 4 peoples now for 1 month • D. Barbareschi for 5 months next year • More going on next year • Many thanks to Marcel for making it happen

  6. LCIO vs MONARC MC Generation  Energy Deposits in Detector MC Generation  Energy Deposits in Detector SDigitization  Detector response from single particle Digitization  Tracker Hits Digitization Detector response combined Pattern Recognition Recpoints Track Finding  Tracks Track Finding  Tracks Track Fitting  Track Parameters Track Fitting  Track Parameters

  7. Established Benchmark Processes

  8. e+e- -> W+W- -> Xqq

  9. Present Analyses • e+e- -> ZoHo -> qqbb Mjj only (no stress on VXD) • e+e- -> W+W- -> qqqq Mjj only (bkg only) We Need • e+e- -> ZoHo -> qqqq d(BR) for individual flavor • t reconstruction

  10. About muons • Muon resolution in MUD very good (Bangalore) • However, need to test muon reconstruction in jets (C. Milstene)
