It involves your giving birth quite naturally and spontaneously through your own will and determination, having the complete freedom to use your body as you choose and to follow its urges. Active birth is an attitude of mind. It involves acceptance and trust in the natural function and involuntary nature of the birth process, as well as an attitude or appropriate positioning of your body. An Ideal Position for Birth? The squatting position produces: maximum pressure inside the pelvis, minimal muscular effort, optimal relaxation of the perineum, optimal oxygen supply to the fetus, and the most efficient angle of descent in relation to gravity. A HEALTHY PREGNANCY Since your body is well designed to accommodate the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy, you may experience this as a time of great health and vitality. Eating a well -balanced, nutritious diet, getting the right kind of regular exercise, and staying in touch with your feelings will help to ensure your physical and emotional well-being. However, discomforts such as backache, cramps, constipation, insomnia, and heartburn are common in pregnancy. These can usually be treated with self-help, through exercise or alternative therapies, before they escalate into more serious problems.<br>
