  2. Our Classroom Rules • Accountable Talk • Managing Tools • Noise Level • Time on task • Transition Time • Effective Peer Relations • Responsibilities – Rock Star Folder, class work, Attendance, Self-control, and respectful behavior

  3. Supplies • Paper, crayons, pencils, glue, pens, highlighters, markers, and more pencils • Paper towels and tissue are always welcome throughout the year. AND MORE PENCILS

  4. ROCKSTAR FolderReally Organized Children Keeping Stuff Together And Ready • This is a required folder. • It must be taken home and returned to school each day. • Please place any communication or notes in this folder. • Each Monday a weekly homework sheet will be in this folder.

  5. Rockin’ Behavior • A team-wide system that promotes positive behavior choices and encourages students to self-monitor their behavior. • Based on levels • Every student starts at the green level (Let’s Rock and Roll)at the beginning of each nine weeks.

  6. Renaissance • School-wide program to motivate students to excel in grades, make improvements, attend school, and respond and react with others in a positive waythrough the use of incentives

  7. Renaissance Rewards • School-wide trips (9 weeks) • Academic reward days/catch up days (Mid-term) • Free t-shirt • Renaissance level cards including discounts • Pep Rallies and Dress up Weeks • Tiger Tuesdays- $$$$$

  8. Lunch • TBA • Student $1.85 • Adult $4.00 • Child Visitor $3.00 • Please complete a lunch form if you are struggling financially to pay for lunch and breakfast. • Restaurant food is not permitted in the school cafeteria

  9. Mrs. Webb – Reading and Language Daily 5 Reading- CAFÉ • Comprehension • Accuracy • Fluency • Enrich Vocabulary

  10. Reading Homework When? • Monday • Tuesday • Thursday What? • Fluency Practice • Comprehension Practice

  11. Reading Assessments • Weekly comprehension/vocabulary quiz… No Sweat Test Prep (Scholastic News) • Bi-weekly fluency/accuracy grades are given • STAR Assessment – frequently • Teacher keeps track of progress • Progress recorded in Parent Portal.

  12. Scholastic News • Most of our vocabulary words will come from our weekly Scholastic News • Wednesdays will be our “news” days. • We are asking that parents cover the cost of this subscription for their child. • The cost is $5.00

  13. Books, books, and more books • Students can check out two books from the school library. These books can go between school and home. • RAZ (This program is accessible from home.) • Public library visits are encouraged. • Please, please, please encourage reading at home It is ok to make them read. Hold them accountable by having them retell what they read. Set daily goals- 15 minutes or 1 chapter or 10 pages.

  14. 3rd Grade is a benchmark year for the CRCT. 3rd grade students must: • Read the entire test themselves. • Bubble in their answer document • Pace themselves • Students must pass the reading portion in order to be promoted to fourth grade.

  15. Language Arts • Writing – Common Core • Third grade students in Georgia must be assessed on three unassisted genre writing samples • Grammar • Spelling – No weekly test Spelling skills will be integrated within the DAILY 5 – Word Work

  16. Mrs. Lane • Standard Based Classroom Mini-Lesson (10-15 min.) Work Session (25-30 min.) Closing (15-20 min.)

  17. Homework Expectations • Weekly homework *Math 4 Today – Thursday Test *Fact Practice – Thursday Test • If your child is struggling with a part of the homework, we can go over this the next day. Do not panic! • Parents may help after the child has been encouraged to work independently. • Constantly review basic math facts (flash cards are GREAT!)

  18. Mrs. Lane Social Studies • History of 9 famous Americans • Geography of the U.S. • Government/Civics • Economics

  19. Science • Hands-on Science Days • Every 4-5 weeks • Dates TBA • Parents are encouraged to come and help out. The more help we have, the better it will be for the children. It will be lots of fun!

  20. Rockstar Team News • Please see weekly homework sheet that will come home in Rockstar Folder on Monday. • Please review Tuesday Folder • Visit school website for upcoming school happenings and resources. Go to staff – then click on Lane or Webb (updated weekly.)

  21. Moms/Dads Needed: • Making copies • Preparing Tuesday folders • Helping out with fluency check-ups • Planning holiday parties and celebrations

  22.
