2. Childhood and Family Life • Michael Andrew Bridge Morpurgo was born on the 5th October 1943 in St Albans Hertfordshire. As of today he is 68 years old • He is married to Clare and has 3 children called Sebastian , Horatio ,Rosa and seven grandchildren.

3. Awards • He and his wife were made Member’s of the Order of the British empire(MBE) for services to Youth in 1999. • Michael was later promoted to an Officer of the Order of the British Empire(OBE) for services to Children’s Literature in 2006. • Michael Morpurgo was Awarded an OBE ,an FKC , an AKC and an MBE

Charity • Michael Morpurgo and Claire Morpurgo run a charity called `Farms for City Children’ they started it in 1976 and approximately 85,000 children have taken part in it since. • Michael is patron to The Prince of Wales Art charity and Kids foundation charity. • In 2009 Michael donated a short story he wrote for them called Look At Me I Need a Smile to Oxfam`s for the ``Ox-Tales project.

HisBooks Michael used to be a teacher but one day whilst he was teaching he discovered his storytelling talents .His writing career was inspired by Ted Hughes's poetry in the making and many other books. One of the 120 books he wrote is called shadow. Shadow is based on a true story about a sniffer dog in Afghanistan who went missing during an attack whilst at patrol. Nearly all of Michael`s books are about wars the reason he writes about wars because he thinks everyone is interested in war and because he thinks children ought to understand about war.

6. War Horse • War horse is Michael Morpurgo`s most famous book it has been made into a radio broadcast, a West End play, Broadway play and even a film . • it the most successful book ever • It was a runner-up for the Whitbread book award in1982.
