Promoting regional sustainability through economic vitality, environmental stewardship, and healthy communities in and around the Lake Tahoe Basin
INTRODUCTION Introduction • The Tahoe Prosperity Center: Who, What & Why • The Focus of our Efforts • Next Steps for the Center
HISTORY The Tahoe Prosperity Center: Who, What & Why? • The TPC is the only entity within the Basin with such broad stakeholder representation focused on economic prosperity and environmental sustainability. • The TPC, a 501(c)3 was formed as a signature recommendation of the Lake Tahoe Basin Prosperity Plan (LTBPP) which identified a need for “regional collaboration and dialogue.” • The TPC operates as a regional collaborative with an inclusive governance structure. • An all volunteer board, comprised of key leaders from the Basin's six jurisdictions, two Chambers of Commerce, the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD), the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), as well as from business, science, health, education and non-profit organizations has led the organization since its inception in 2010.
WHY US Why the Tahoe Prosperity Center? • Brings regional representation, voice and ultimately solutions, to what are regional problems. • Seeks solutions where there is no other champion or entity that has the capacity to facilitate necessary change.
WHY US Why the Tahoe Prosperity Center? • Our community is not thriving and the quality of life for many is untenable. • Double digit % unemployment • 62% of local school lunches are subsidized • 15% population loss in recent years • We are living in a “1970’s” community with a few nice upgrades here and there but we need a comprehensive fix that will ensure economic vitality for the region, its residents and businesses. • Implementing the Lake Tahoe Basin Prosperity Plan will get us there.
