SRMS Implementation • SRMS will continue using professional development as a vehicle to connect Common Core State Standards (CCSS) to the new teacher evaluation model, PLC, ELL, SWD, RtI, EOC exams, and student-centered instructional strategies. • CCSS are not additional tasks. CCSS connect all other recent initiatives. • SRMS professional development sessions will include a timeline of implementation and resources available for implementation, such as state course descriptions specific to each content area/grade level.
Srms integration • Time within the school day for collaboration and cross-curriculum common planning are necessary components in order to integrate the CCSS. • Student-centered curriculum resources aligned to the CCSS must be provided to teachers and staff to effectively implement the new standards across content areas.
Summary of SRMS ccss plan • Time within the school day for collaboration and cross-curriculum common planning are necessary components in order to integrate the CCSS. • Sebastian River Middle School will potentially transition to including a designated time during the school day for EPIC. In order for teachers to effectively integrate the CCSS, regularly scheduled blocks of planning time must be included in the instructional calendar, such as early-release work days dedicated to CCSS. • Site-based professional development specific to the needs of Sebastian River Middle School will be provided.
SRMS Plan Continued… • Student-centered curriculum resources aligned to the CCSS must be provided to teachers and staff to effectively implement the new standards across content areas. In addition, updated technology will allow teachers to provide engaging, relevant lessons and enable students to acquire 21st century skills. • To accomplish this, we will identify a common-core collaborative team to work across content areas to develop a repository of sample lessons.
