Assignment page Each lesson at IguanaPaint will have an assignment page that summarizes the lesson/demonstration.. • This page (slide) essentially lists: • Assignment Goal • Supplies/materials • Guidelines for accomplishing the assignment successfully • Reminder to shoot/scan/edit their image photoand then upload to the IAG (Iguana Assignment Gallery) • Parents appreciate it, as it provides a clear outline of what their child is to be doing, and it also enables parent and student to know what is expected of them. • You may find it instrumental in your lessons to share this slide before and after your demonstration. It increases retention by giving students a list of questions that are answered as they view your demonstration.

As5:sketch-a-rock • Assignment Goal: Observe contour and value changes • Materials needed: 4H, HB, & 6B pencils, sketchbook, kneaded eraser, rock. • AS5 Guidelines: • Have fun!Enjoy the process of seeing and responding! • Find a good, jagged rock. Then set it up on a table so that there’s one strong light source (a nice, bright window light on it works great! Avoid direct sunlight, though, as well as multiple interior lights on it). You can put fabric under it if you like. • Divide your page in half (each half being 6”x9”). On each half, sketch a rock, paying careful attention to: • the light mass, shadow mass, the cast shadow • the value differences between the rock and the areas around it (the masses, table, tablecloth, background, etc.). Use your value scale to figure out the right values. • Review. Lastly, walk away from your drawing, then come back and see if there's anything that jumps out to you as being 'off'. Ask someone else if they see anything that seems out of place or different from the print. • Shoot/Scan and edit. Before submitting your image, edit it so it looks as good as your drawing. Please review the tips that I’ve put on the class homepage (Pages>FAQs>Photographing Assignments) for how to obtain good pics to turn in. You can use www.picmonkey.com for free!   Make your whites white and your darks dark. • Save your edited image on your computer, naming it exactly as “FirstName-LastName,AS5” (e.g. “Tim-Chambers,AS5”) • Submit to the IAG (Iguana Assignment Gallery) by Sunday evening to receive feedback. 
