  11. A variety of tools exist for creating a website

  12. Summary/Conclusion • A prototype is one step up from a mockup. It is a working version of the website though incomplete. • Businesses must decide whether to build or buy off the shelf solutions to their business problems. In general, it is best to buy and customize a solution for reasons of cost and ease of maintenance. • If you do decide to build then you will need an authoring tool to simplify the process of website construction. Authoring tools may live on your computer or you can use a cloud based authoring tool such as Google Sites. • Google Sites tries to simplify the development process by providing pre-built templates for different businesses and themes to control the overall look and feel.

  13. Summary/Conclusion • The ability to capture and store customer data using a Google Docs form and Spreadsheet is the first step toward database integration. Full database integration allows you to customize pages for individual customers. • In general corporations tend to be very conservative with respect to software choices. Any change represents potential problems, increased costs, and business disruptions.

  14. Useful Google Links • Gmail – gmail.com • Google Sites – sites.google.com • Google Docs – docs.google.com

  15. How to Turn on Google Analytics on your Site • Our Class App Store website has its own Google Analytics account. The account creates a database and reports to track traffic on the site. However, you must turn on Google analytics on your site in order to be tracked by Google Analytics and stored in our Class App Store. • From your landing page (Homepage) of your site, click on More actions -> Manage site -> General • Check • Paste your Analytics Web Property ID: • Save changes
