  2. COURSE OBJECTIVES TO GIVE TOBOGGAN INSTRUCTOR CANDIDATES A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF SKILLS NEEDED TO BECOME EFFECTIVE TOBOGGAN INSTRUCTORS

  3. THIS COURSE WILL INCLUDE: • UNDERSTANDING THE SCOPE OF WHAT A TOBOGGAN INSTRUCTOR IS AND DOES! • A REVIEW OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF TOBOGGANS AND THE BASIC COMPONENTS A SLED • DISCUSS WHAT OBJECTIVE, WE AS TOBOGGAN INSTRUCTORS WILL NEED TO BE LOOKING FOR IN EACH SKILL

  4. WILL DISCUSS IN DETAIL AND PRACTICE MANY TEACHING COMPONENTS AND SKILLS WE WILL NEED TO KNOW • INCLUDING: • ERROR DETECTION & CORRECTION • LESSONS • HOW PEOPLE LEARN • EVALUATIONS • FEEDBACK • DISCUSSIONS ON ANNUAL CHECKOFFS • SCORING

OUTINE FOR THE DAY • 8:30-9:00 Paperwork • 9:00-10:00 Inside presentation • 10:00-12:00 Outside work • Review Toboggans Skills • Teaching Mythology • Tobo Drills • Etc. • 12:00-12:30 Lunch • 12:30-2:00 More outside work • Finish AM Stuff • 2:00-3:00 Inside – Video’s • Error Detection • Evaluating • Scoring • 3:00-3:30 Wrap up • 3:30 Sweep

Trainer (Teacher/Coach/Mentor)Evaluator (Annual Mountain Check-offs) Remember, We’re Trainer’s “FIRST” ***********What is our goal as a toboggan Instructor? To see “IMPROVEMENT” in a patroller’sability to handle a sled… ***********What the Difference between a toboggan Instructor and a S&T T/E? Ski Skill Disciplines and Evaluating at a Senior Evaluation

  11. UNDERSTANDING TO SCOPE OF WHAT A TOBOGGAN INSTRUCTOR IS AND DOES! What Skills/Events are we as Toboggan Instructors going to be involve with? Empty Sled Loaded Sled - Front Loaded Sled - Rear How about, SP, SS, Transitions ? We will need to be somewhat versed in the following snow sport disciplines… Alpine Skiing Tele Skiing Snowboarding/Riding

  12. TEACHING CONCEPTS As Instructor’s will need to be familiar with and understand the following Teaching concepts…. Error Detection and Correction(Cause and Effect) S&T is ‘Objective’ Based, let’s look at four major objectives found in each of our toboggan events…..

  14. TEACHING CONCEPTS As Instructor’s will need to be able to give effective and immediate feedback… P.I.S.E. P = Positive I = Improvement S = Specific (1 Thing) E = Evaluation We’ll work a lot more with giving good feedback on the Hill ...

  15. TEACHING CONCEPTS Once we’ve identified a problem we’ll need to come up with meaningful Lessons/Drills to help correct the identified problem…. A.D.A.P.T. A = Assess D = Develop a Lesson A = Assign a Task P = Practice T = Test (Re-evaluate) Again, we’ll work a lot more with developing drills and lessons on the Hill ...

  16. TOBOGGAN’s We’re all familiar with Cascade Toboggans and we’ll go over parts when we get outside… Let’s take a look at some Toboggans that we may NOT be use to … Have you ever heard of a “Sun Valley Rescue Sled” ?
