  4. Print Media Highlights Lohitt Urs wins the K-1000 rally title Lohitt Urs and co-driver Sujith Kumar BS of Team PGA Motorsports won the Indian National Rally Championship 2012 on Sunday. But Team Kajah Motorsports' A Zuhin and co-driver Musa Sherif showcased the beauty of a `beast' as they drove their 4-wheel-drive Subaru Impreza in the foreign class of the Indian Rally Championship to clock the overall best time in the spectator-friendly Super Special Stage which attracted a crowd of over 5,000 fans at the Bangalore International Exhibition Grounds on Tumkur road in Bangalore on Sunday. They were a couple of seconds faster than the Indian National Rally Championship 2012 winner Lohitt Urs and co-driver Sujith Kumar BS of Team PGA Motorsports. The Mysore star stole the thunder to put in two laps of stunning drifts and a daring dash on the straights with his Bangalore navigator BS Sujit Kumar in their Mitsubishi Cedia to comfortably win the IMG Sports 38th K-1000 rally, the first leg of the Indian National Rally Championship. The Horizon-sponsored team clocked 2 minutes 55.2 seconds to cover the 2.6 km SSS in the 2000cc N class while AmittrajitGhosh and co-driver AshwinNaik had to be content with a second place. The Kolkata-Mangalore pair clocked 3 minutes. KarnaKadur and co-driver SomonnitaGhosh, the only lady driver in the championship, finished. Karna-Ghosh timed 3 min 02 seconds. ``We really enjoyed the rally this year as the stages were challenging and demanding with the stock cars and pace notes really made a difference. The credit should go to my navigator Sujit,''said Lohitt Urs. The Karnataka Motor Sports Club-organised first leg will be followed by Mysore, Chikmagalur and Nashik for this year's four-leg national championship. Team Kajah Motorsports' A Zuhin and celebrated Navigator Musa Sherif had a good run today, even if it is only for a few minutes. ``Unlike the stages yesterday, we were able to manouvre the 4-wheel drive and get the power to the ground. It is a joy to drive this car,'' quipped Zuhin from Kuttikanam. In the 1600cc category of the Indian National Rally Championship, Aditya S and co-driver Kariyappa KB put paid to the hopes of veteran SiddharthRagnekar and Nitin Jacob. Prakhyat H Shirole and co-driver SM Bharath finished third in the class. Young talented teenager Dean Mascarenhas impressed with his driving skills and along with navigator ShrupthaPadiwal was street ahead of their nearest rivals to win the Junior INRC. The Mangalore duo thrilled the spectators in their Esteem today with their slides and drifts. Karan AM (co-driver Shanmuga SM) came second while Vineet Tom Vincent and Sob George finished third. Print Media Highlights Check Online Lohitt Urs finishes third in 2012 Desert Storm Suresh Rana held on to win the 10th Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm in his battered Gypsy by 20 minutes and 14 seconds over GauravChiripal'sVitara. Lohit Urs managed to place his Mahindra XUV 500 on the podium as he finished 20min 43sec behind Chiripal. The top five was rounded out by the Gypsies of AbhishekMishra and Rana's Team Thunderbolt teammate Harpreet Singh Bawa. The final results of the rally were thrown in doubt after a mini-controversy with Chiripal'sVitara, which had to be jump started from parcferme after his car's starter motor failed to start. There were talks of a protest against Chiripal as there was talk that this constituted repair work on the car, which is forbidden in parcferme. The moto/quad section of the rally was won by Raj Singh Rathore on his Polaris RZR 800. He was followed by R, Natraj who was nearly 42 minutes behind. Natraj was, in turn ahead of Pramod Joshua, Virendra R Vaghela and KaustubhMachhe. The event finished after over 800 km of special stages held between Sardarshahar in Rajasthan to Seekra in Gujarat.

Print Media Highlights Check Online Mysore lad Lohitt Urs bags top honours Local lad Lohitt Urs from Team R3A hogged the limelight by emerging the fastest driver in the third round of the Indian National Autocross championship conducted by Mysore Automotive Racing Club (MARC) at the grounds adjacent to the LalithMahal Palace here on Sunday. He overtook ChethanShivram of Bangalore by nearly three seconds and went on to win the first place in the Class V up to 3000 CC in his Mitsubishi Cedia. While city lass NivedithaHarsha emerged second in the ladies class, SyedSalman Ahmed cruised to the third place in the Class I and V categories. With 87 cars participating in the seven classes conducted by MARC, a huge enthusiastic crowd gathered at the venue to watch the racers in action. The qualifying rounds were held in the morning and the finals were conducted in the afternoon and evening sessions. The prizes to the winners in different categories were given away by Naveen of Karnataka Automotive Sports, hockey player Len Aiyappa, Kumar and P N R Satish from Coimbatore and Anil Sadanand of MARC, Mysore.

Srinivasa Murthy) notched up his first win of the year with triumph at the Coffee Day Rally, the fifth round of the Speed Indian National Rally Championship, at Chikmagalur on Sunday. The Mysore driver finished over a minute ahead of AmittrajitGhosh (AshwinNaik), with overnight leader Gaurav Gill (Musa Sherif) nursing his car home in third with gearbox trouble, as Team MRF reigned over the podium. The result pushed Lohit up to 91 points in the championship standings, but he continues to remain in second, well behind Gill's tally of 136. In the 2000cc N category, Team Kadur'sKarnaKadur (SomonnitaGhosh) came from behind to pip overnight leader RahulKantharaj (Vivek Bhatt), finishing in a time of 1:32:12.2s. Team Overdrive's SirishChandran (Nikhil VittalPai) finished third after being hit by a 10-second penalty (but for which he would have emerged runner-up). The day also witnessed the retirement of veteran ArjunBalu from the INRC, after a 17-year-stint with MRF.

The awareness and enthusiasm for motorsport in India is growing by the day. With the hosting of the F1 grandprix in India motorsports has got a very big boost and significantly it has caught the eye of many corporate companies who were only looking at cricket earlier. The motorsports industry appears to perfectly fit the new economy model. It is a highly technical high-skill industry with aeronautical engineers & workers with advanced manufacturing skills. The motorsports industry is very entrepreneurial. The industry also attract college graduates and other creative and skilled individuals thus increasing job opportunities, income and economic stabilities.
