STATUS OF THE DATA TAKING JANUARY 2006 COSMIC RUN P. Colas - Status of the cosmic run
Commissioning • Nitoh san prepared CF4 and Argon lines, Watanabe san prepared DAQ, Kuroiwa san prepared trigger counters • Ron, Dan, Arnaud and Paul arrived Sat. 14 • Started to dismount the cage and add the first ring Sunday, exchanged GEM <-> Micromegas • Started to flush gas (TDR gas) on Sunday: huge leak (10l/h, no bubbling) • Suspected leak around PCB, add glue • Monday 16: still huge leak, add more glue • Tuesday 17: realised that the O-ring had been removed without notice, sealed with kapton tape and glue in the crack, flush again • Wednesday 18: detector and trigger commissioning, readout and HV connections, hunt for noise -> start data taking (Watanabe, Fujii) • Micromegas worked immediately and smoothly, gain=2800, with TDR gas. P. Colas - Status of the cosmic run
Detector as in October : 384 channels, resistive foil • Start with B=0 P. Colas - Status of the cosmic run
TDR gas works Ar+5% Isobutane Ar+10% CO2 TDR gas Ar+2%CH4+5% CO2 TDR gas Ar+2%CH4+5% CO2 As well known TDR gas not optimal for energy resolution. In addition noise conditions less good than in the beam area P. Colas - Status of the cosmic run
However good events P. Colas - Status of the cosmic run
DATA (so far…) • 1000 evts with Edrift=207 V/cm • More than 8000 evts with Edrift=136 V/cm • Total about 10,000 TDR gas events with B=0 P. Colas - Status of the cosmic run
The ILC Micromegas TPC ready to take data (July 2015) ALICE TPC AT CERN (Dec 2005) P. Colas - Status of the cosmic run
Next • Add isobutane (Nitoh san sets a separate line for more accuracy and flexibility) • Enter the magnet • Take 2-3 days of Ar jCF4 (3%) iso (2%) • Get the ECF4 out of Narita – Matsuda san • Take 2-3 days of Ar eCF4 (3%) iso (2%) • Study jCF4 in Paris (needs a japanese reducer or adapter – Matsuda san) P.
