  3. Evaluation of Collection • What do you have? • Reference or stories? • Are gender, culture, and time represented? • What are your collection and circulation numbers in 796? • Gtown: 4% of total collection -- Avg 13% of circs per year • What is being checked out in 796?

  4. Develop a plan-Research • Recognize “what” sport is • Evaluate your school • Evaluate your region • What is the athletic history of your district • Talk to kids • Talk to coaches • Talk to teachers and administration • Recognize the nontraditional “sports” that have grown

  6. What plays well? • Sports book market is a reflection of sports TV market • Classics • Search for compelling stories • Small town stories play well in Wisconsin • Local angles • Movies • Travel • Inspirational stories

  7. Where do I get ideas? • General sports magazines • Sport specific magazines--often connected to publishing outfits (Rodale) • NY TIMES Sports section will often run first chapters • Booklist • Local papers/beat writers often put out books • Bob Wolfley column has books • Watch TV • Not School Library Journal
