PORTUGUESE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM • Education System • Preschool Education – students aged 3 – 5 • 1st Cycle– Basic Education – 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th years/ grades – students aged 6 – 9 • 2nd Cycle– Basic Education – 5th and 6th years – students aged 10 -11 • 3rd Cycle– Basic Education – 7th, 8th and 9th years – students aged 12 -15 • Secondary Education – 10th, 11th and 12 th years – students aged 16 -18

PORTUGUESE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM These different areas of content should be considered as references to be taken into account in an overall approach and not as “airtight compartments” to be worked separately. The action strategies will be based on the construction of the Curricular Project of the Classroom, the planning of several activities (that are based on the interests and characteristics of the group); study visits and planning and coordination with the 1st Cycle. The development of learning should be based on motivation and curiosity of children involving the active participation in the activities of daily life.
