RESEARCH ON THE ELECTROMAGNETIC SPECTRUM

This group project focuses on the electromagnetic spectrum and involves 3-4 members per group. Each group will give a 2-4 minute oral presentation, contributing to a total score of 130 points split between written reports and oral presentations. Responsibilities are divided into four areas: History explores the historical significance of electromagnetic radiation; Sources describe how it is produced; Uses discuss its applications across various fields; and Effects on the Human Body investigate its impact on health. Reports must be neatly handwritten, one page long, and submitted before the presentation.

  2. Summary: • This group project (3-4 people per group) • oral presentation • each individual turns in a written report. • All group members will participate in the oral presentation.

  3. Point Value: 100 points for written report; 30 points for oral presentation. (Oral presentation must be given to get points for written portion.)

  4. Written Report: • Turned in immediately before the presentation. • Each person writes only about their area of responsibility. • The report must be neatly hand-written, and one page long.

  5. Oral Presentation: • Presentations will begin on 3/22. • The presentation should be 2-4 minutes long. • Only note cards and visual aids can be used. • Present in order of “Responsibilities”

  6. Responsibilities: • 1) History • Describe the historical background of this type of electromagnetic radiation. • History of discovery • Growth of knowledge • Historical usages • Etc.

  7. Responsibilities: • 2) Sources • Describe how this type of EMW is produced. • Natural Sources • Man-made sources • How do these sources work to produce this radiation?

  8. Responsibilities: • 3) Uses • Describe how people use this type of electromagnetic radiation. This can include scientific, military, commercial, personal, and other uses.

  9. Responsibilities: • Effects on Human Body: • Describe how this type of electromagnetic radiation affects our body. • Does it harm us? Can it help us? • Can we sense it with our skin? • In the case of radio waves, discuss the current thinking of experts on the effect of radio waves on our body.
