MMT Megacam

The MMT Megacam, developed by Brian McLeod and the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, features a high-resolution imaging system with a 36.2048x4608 pixel array composed of 13.5-micron pixels (e2v ccd42-90). With a current pixel scale of 0.16” (binning by 2), it operates at an impressive rate of 200 kps through 72 amplifiers. The imaging system, which includes additional CCDs for guiding and focus, achieves a gain of 3-4 e-/ADU and a read noise of 4-5 e- at 200 kHz. The device allows for precise astrometry and excellent image quality with noted performance variations across focal planes.
