  1. Anna Pasiakos Columbus Magnet School Congressional District 4 Prudence Crandall How African American girls were given a CHANCE for education digital.library.epenn.edu Prudence Crandall ~ The woman responsible for opening a school for young African American women (1833) in Canterbury CT and beginning the change in African American rights.

  2. During the time Prudence was running her school for the young African American misses, all “colored” people were not treated with the same ways they are today. For example, it was not allowed for them to be educated. wikipedia.org • A few reasons her new school was important are: • Young African American girls would get educated and may be able to teach other young African American children • Prudence may be able to help the African American people begin to be treated in a different, better way Miss Crandall’s School ; the, “Colored Female Boarding School”

  3. The event of Prudence opening her new school shocked many people in the town of Canterbury. It was especially shocking, for African Americans weren’t supposed to be educated. The news definitely changed the townsfolk’s society and way of living because they did not think the law allowed Prudence teach such a “colored lot”. This thought positively made things worse for Prudence and her students, along with some Canterbury citizens who were abolitionists, though most people weren’t. The reason behind that is, a man named Andrew Judson. Judson absolutely hated the idea that it could be allowed with just tons of gossip for Prudence to be teaching African American girls was okay. He was determine to close the school. A few weeks later the Black Law was passed and Prudence was to be tried. No verdict was reached, but Prudence was just safe. That was one giant change in the society. digital.library.upenn.edu

  4. www.allposters.co.uk Without Prudence Crandall starting her school for young African American girls you might never have seen a picture like this. There might not have been schools for “black and white” children established yet. But, with Prudence’s hard work and the help of other famous African Americans, we now have people of every color skin together in unison.

  5. = me I believe that what Prudence Crandall did and began was absolutely amazing. All she did was open a school and believe. She strongly stood for what she thought was right and in no time at all, she began to fight against unequal rights. What Prudence did impacts me because I have friends that are African American and I would not know them if what Prudence accomplished along with many other “equal rights” fighters did not happen. = one of my African American friends
