Bio… • Officer for 11 years ( 9 years with BPD) • Crime Scene Investigator (CSI) • DUI Task Force • Training Officer • Became a Neighborhood Officer over 5 years ago • Alcohol Enforcement for 5 years • Football game patrols • Party Patrols • Over service patrols & education • Bar patrols & education • Drug & Alcohol investigations • Fake ID education and collection program

Initial issues • Frequent complaints of: • Underage Drinking (High School & College) Parties • Party related complaints • Party related Accidents • Kids feeling invincible • Little & inconsistent party related enforcement • Retailers providing to minors • Adults purchasing to for minors • Police not doing anything

  5. Problems Continued • No communication among groups • Police / Probation • Coalitions • Educators • Parents • Youth • Very low knowledge among community groups • No consistency…in programs & enforcement

  11. What we did about it • Ride Alongs • Email and contact lists • Partnered with sports teams • Partnered with juvenile P & P • Residence checks

  12. Colleges • Fraternities & Sororities • Attend meetings & Expectations • Developed a contact within • Sports teams • Reach out to the youth directly

  14. Educate Parents • Don’t realize the combination… • Searching doesn’t (always) work • Don’t know what’s out there • We (L.E. & Coalitions) have to educate & work with them….

  15. Continue to Educate • Give parents, educators and L.E. the tools: • Identify the popular culture drinks • Popular alcohol & drug clothing • Identify teen drinkers • Pro-Active • Can’t STOP what you don’t know!
