  1. Tips for Maintaining your Outdoor Kitchen While your outdoor kitchen may not always be used as often as the one inside your home, it’s still important to perform regular cleaning and maintenance on its finishes. Keeping your outdoor kitchen clean will help ensure that you’ll be able to enjoy using it for many years to come. 1. Your Grill needs Attention Although it can be tempting to just run a wire brush over your grill grates before using it again, it’s important to remember that other components will require cleaning and care from time to time as well. If you’re using a gas grill, it’s crucial to inspect its burners, hoses and valves periodically as well. Hoses should be checked to ensure they aren’t cracked or perished before firing up, as a damaged hose can cause serious injuries. Burners should be thoroughly cleaned regularly to prevent grease and dirt from accumulating on them as well. 2. Keep those Countertops Clean Most homeowners tend to choose natural stone or granite for the work surfaces of their outdoor kitchens. While these surfaces appear to be smooth, they are in fact quite porous, meaning that they can stain badly over time if not correctly maintained. As such, it’s strongly recommended that you have your outdoor countertops sealed. This will not only make them easier to clean; they will remain looking good for a long time as well. It’s also a good idea to place covers over your outdoor countertops during winter to prevent snow and/or ice from settling on them. 3. Cover Outdoor Furniture When not in use, most furniture being used in outdoor kitchens tends to be left to fend for itself against the elements. However, this will result in it deteriorating quite quickly. Wherever possible, try to keep your outdoor furniture out of the winter weather by storing it indoors. If you don’t have the space to do this, your next best option is to purchase vinyl covers that go over all of your furniture, but do not touch the ground anywhere. This will prevent furniture from discoloring and/or rusting over time. 4. Go Easy on Cleaning Stainless Steel Surfaces Appliances with a stainless steel finish are a popular choice in outdoor kitchens because it not only looks attractive; it’s also able to resist corroding and rusting over time. While stainless steel surfaces are known for their durability, you should never cut directly on them or leave hot pots and pans standing on them for any length of time. Mild soapy water is all that should be used to clean these surfaces, as harsh detergents and steel wool will cause irreparable damage.
