  3. History • Launched in Spring 2006 to help combat a serious high school drop-out problem • Result of committed collaboration between education, business, and private sector to address needs of at-promise youth • 122 students have earned their diplomas from participating high schools with HSDCI

  4. Purpose of HSDCI • Provide students who have disconnected from traditional high school a way to complete their diploma while obtaining college credit • Provide and sustain a unique non-traditional program (NOT an online credit recovery, dual-enrollment, or early/middle college program) • Provide a system that is nurturing, collaborative, supportive and skill-focused

  5. Eligibility Requirements • Be between the ages of 16-19 (exceptions for those with an IEP) • Be enrolled, or eligible to be re-enrolled, in an Ingham or Eaton County high school • Obtained at least half of the host high school’s graduation requirements

Features of HSDCI (cont.) • Students earn a high school diploma from their host high school, not from Lansing Community College • Most HSDCI students earn approximately 24 - 30 college credits while earning their high school diploma (that’s half way to the General Associate’s) • Books & Materials provided to all students • Transportation (parking or CATA) & lunch money supplements are earned via attendance in class • Year-round program (graduations: May, Dec, Aug)

  7. Features of HSDCI (cont.) • Follow LCC calendar • 16 week term fall & spring • 8 week summer term • Work-Based Learning opportunities embedded in the program • Week-long student orientation at the beginning of each semester prior to launch of the semester • Student-led conferences required

Key Features of HSDCI • Restricted/Unrestricted classes • First semester all HSDCI students in college course • Weekly attendance logs from faculty • Bi-weekly team meetings • After first semester, more classes with general LCC population • Structured Study • Support for assignment completion and study skills • Case Management • Ensure educational records are up to date, connect with partner schools, provide support for students • Progress Reports & Partnerships • Parents/guardians, advocates, local experts…
